Year 5/6

Celebrating Learning

Winter Sports Blurb

After taking part in a successful Gala Day for summer sports, Years 5 and 6 have begun training for their Winter Sport Gala day. After sampling the 4 sports Football (AFL), Soccer, Netball and Newcombe students selected the sport they would be training for and playing through winter. We have just completed a successful first training session with students focusing on fundamental skills and practising these in games competing against each other. We are looking forward to building on our skills through the winter sports program.

Maths - Measurement & Geometry Blurb

Students have been exploring Units of Measurement in our current maths unit. They briefly touched on informal units of measurement before looking at why we use formal units of measurement and how these can differ depending on where we live (metric and imperial).

We learned about length, perimeter and area and how to accurately measure these with appropriate tools. We used concrete materials as well as formulae to problem solve and calculate perimeter, area and capacity of regular and compound shapes.
