Year 1/2–Celebrating Learning

What we have been up to:

1/2s have been embarking further into our integrated unit by exploring living things, learning about animals and their characteristics. Our excursion to the Melbourne Zoo gave us some great insights into the diverse features and habitats of different animals.

Zoo quotes:

“For some reason, the Meerkats always posed for the camera” - Charlie L

“Meerkats eat scorpions and sometimes they pull their babies tails off if they are too rough” - Elke

“It was a warm day and a fun excursion. I loved seeing the red belly black snakes”- Frank

“The giant tortoises looked like they had spikes on their backs” - Felix

“This has been the best day ever” - Florina

Maths:

Over the past two weeks, the year 1/2s have been introduced to addition through action stories that involve joining. They made their own addition story books and are now learning all the addition and subtraction mental computation strategies that can help with instant recall.

What’s to co

What's to come in the next two weeks:

For integrated we will look more closely at the connection between living things and their environments. We will discuss the link between plants and animals, and the Country where they live.

In Literacy, we will focus on the -er suffix and the different letter patterns that make the ‘air’ sound. We continue to look at information reports, practising our revising and editing skills.

In Maths, we will look at more strategies for efficient addition and subtraction. We are also exploring making and interpreting graphs, starting with using data from our zoo excursion.
