School Advisory Council

Each week you will find a brief bio on School Council members.

This week: Simone Nolan (School Council Chair)

About Me:

My name is Simone Nolan, I’m the Mum of Beatrix in Grade 6.

I grew up locally in Tarrawingee on Bpangerang Country. Our family returned to the area in 2010 with our three children including our two boys Jasper and Rufus who had the privilege of seeing out their primary school education at St Joseph’s Primary School. My husband Sam and I work locally and love the benefits of the small community that Beechworth offers.

Why I am on/ value the School Advisory Council:

When we first came to St. Joseph’s in 2010, there were only 64 children enrolled, over time we have watched the school grow in attendance and change a great deal. Throughout that growth and change, the essence of the school’s values and beliefs has never wavered. Our family was drawn to St Joseph's due to the values of kindliness, respect, social justice, and student wellbeing.

These values are driven by Carly our principal and teaching staff and are closely interconnected to the school community which is driven through community engagement. Over the years I have contributed to the school in many ways. As life got busier, the School Advisory Council became an after-hours way that I could donate my time, and I have found this experience invaluable. The most important part of the School Advisory Council is that your opinion counts, it is a two-way relationship where you can act as an advocate for the principal and teaching staff and at the same time have a meaningful platform for a collective parental voice, ultimately you are helping to create community and the vision of the school in which your child attends.

Whether it be on the Advisory Committee, working on the Parent and Friends Committee, or just helping where you can, parental engagement and family involvement is the heartbeat of a school, and it creates the most treasured memories for our children.

What do you love about St. Joe’s:

We choose St Josephs because our children felt safe, and the staff are warm and welcoming which offered the ideal environment for our children to learn. If a child feels they belong this is a brilliant starting point for lifelong learning. Carly and the staff live and breathe the qualities and values that our family holds in high regard, we wouldn’t be anywhere else.

If you would like to know more about the Advisory Committee, please be sure to contact me.

We are always looking for additional members and would welcome your interest.
