Principal's News

Where every child is known, challenged and supported to be lifelong learners.

Dear Parents and Friends,

JUNIOR MAYOR

We would like to wish Tabitha, Camilla, Zara and Ruby all the best when representing St Brigid’s at the Junior Mayor presentations today. They were on the train by 8.30am and meet with the students from 28 other local schools at Moorabbin Town Hall.  The topic of todays Junior Mayor is 'What three initiatives would you create to support mental health for young people in the City of Kingston?'. The day finished with lunch.  Well done to our Junior Mayor team.  We are very proud of you.

WALK TO SCHOOL DAY

It was great to see so many children, prams, mums and dads, and the two members of the Mordialloc Police - Abbey and Rob joining us for the Walk Safely to School Day on Friday. The sirens and lights were a huge hit when the police had to leave to attend an accident.

Below is a thank you from the Pedestrian Council of Australia and Prime Minister Albanese:

Thank you for participating in the 24th National Walk Safely to School Day.

We hope you had a great time and know your support of this important community initiative is hugely appreciated.

We were thrilled to also have the support of the Prime Minister of Australia, the Hon Anthony Albanese MP. Please see his official letter of support below.

Warm regards,

The Pedestrian Council of Australia

YEAR 5/6 CAMP

Our 5/6 students had an amazing camp experience last week - with many children trying brand new experiences and learning to overcome their nerves. The children have come back with a new appreciation and care for each other, which is really nice to see and hear.

What was your favourite thing about camp? Jack: I liked surfing because it was fun trying new things and learning new skills. I also liked how when we went to camp I made better and stronger bonds.

How did you feel before and after coming to camp?

Ana: I felt nervous before going to camp because I was leaving my family for the first time for 3 days, but after camp I felt really happy to be back with my family and I could get myself to do it again.

What did you expect going to camp?

Archie: I expected it to be fun because I was introduced to lots of new and interesting things. It was indeed because we did a lot of the same activities from last camp also since surfing was a fun new activity.

Were you happy with camp overall?

Keira K: I was very happy with camp overall because I tried new activities and things that I wouldn’t normally do, also since the people in my cabin were nice and helpful as well as my activity group.

Aisha: Personally, camp was one of my highlights of the year because I tried new things that I thought were hard but I got through them. Also I am quite proud of myself for participating in every activity and overcoming scary things that were new to me.

And what lovely emails we got from some families:

Dear camp staff,

Thank you for giving my children the best time. They have not stopped talking about everything they did.

Thank you for making (name) put long pants on (We struggle).

And listening to (name) go on and on.

Hope you all have a big rest over the weekend.

Hi Heather, Loretta, Arch, Deb, Moira and Jodie,

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for giving the kids such a great camp experience this week!  As you know (name) was quite nervous in the lead up to going away, but he had such a great time. He has genuinely not stopped talking about it since coming home. This experience will have given him so much confidence going forward.

Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into this event and looking after the kids so well - I hope you have had a lovely weekend to recover and catch up on sleep!

Hi, I hope you are all going to have a well earned rest tonight!

I just wanted to say a big thank you for the 5/6 camp (name) had an amazing time and tried activities that she would normally never try. Also thank you to Moira and Jodie for the kind words about (name)I am so proud of her and the young lady she is becoming and I hope the morals and values that we are teaching her carry her through high school, to hear from someone else that (name) is a good kind girl makes me very proud and I will be sure to let her know too.

Have a good weekend and we’ll see you on Monday!

RUNNING TO SYDNEY - RUNNING CLUB

Well, on Tuesday our Run to Sydney, running club completed 226 laps (double what we did last week!).  226 laps equals to 11,300m which equals 11.3km.  We have now run a total of 22.3km. This get us onto the Western Ring Road

Big congratulations to Tahlia, Luke, Kyle, Luke and Sam who ran the whole 15 minutes!  Well done!

Running club is on from 8.15am - 8.30am every Tuesday.  We stop at 8.30am due to the number of people coming though the school grounds and Hannah has to get herself ready for her PE lessons.

Thank you to Leah and Elies (Tahlia FR) who have kindly donated running club bands which we will give out to running club members when we reach 500km. You have to come along every week to get the band!

BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL PLAY

Due to the number of parents and younger siblings that are accessing the school before and after school we do not allow basketball or football games to be played or children to play on the playground.  It is an OH & S issue and I would hate for anyone to get hurt.  Thanks for your understanding in this matter.

2024 ENROLMENTS

It is great to have the enrolment applications coming in.  We are busy making offers and look forward to meeting with each new and current family for 2024 early next term. We thank everyone who has attended our school tours and for considering St Brigid’s as the educational setting for their child and for them as a family. Please know that all enquiries regarding enrolments are always welcome. Please contact the school office on 9580 4518 if you would like to arrange a school tour.

SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING

On Tuesday night we had our Term 2 SAC meeting - a big thank you to our committee members who came out in the cold.

We had a discussion regarding the possibility of having a Body Awareness/Sex Education, Parent child information night. Last year I put out a survey and the majority of responses came back as a "no" to the night.

I will put out another survey in the next week or two and see if we have enough interested families and if we do we will try and organise it for Term 3 or early Term 4.

With thanks

Wendy Sullivan
