Walton House News

Dear Parents, Carers, Family and Students,

Hello Walton to Walton community!

Term 2

Halfway through Term 2 already!

This term we have celebrated Multicultural Day, where students performed traditional dance in their traditional clothes. This assembly was a huge success, as we saw the talent and cultural diversity of the students at HPSC.

We also had a Free Dress Day, where students were encouraged to come in their cultural dress. The funds raise on the day went toward local charity Cook 4 CALD – who provide readymade food for local families of no cost in the city of Casey. It is a worthy charity who does a lot of good for the community and we were so happy to be able to help with funding the cause. For more information please visit this link: https://www.cook4cald.org/

This week we have had the year 7s go off to camp for three days. We are very excited to hear how they went! Next week we have the year 9 City Experience. This is set to be a fun 3 days of varied activities, including The Old Melbourne Gaol, The National Gallery of Victoria, Street Art Tours, MCG Sports Museum and more!

We have year 10, 11 and 12 exams beginning next week. Good luck to all students who will be sitting the exams, it is great practice for those who want to get an ATAR and a great opportunity to demonstrate content knowledge and receive feedback from teachers.

Next week we begin semester 2 classes, meaning students will have some new classes on their timetable. Students will have a week to change subjects if they require, however this must be signed off by a parent/carer and there must be a genuine reason for the change.

Walton Staff Member of the Month! This month is big in Walton, as we are celebrating the birthdays of our Assistant Principal Paul Broecker and Year 11-12 SSL Ben Wilson.

Reading House Points

We are running the House Reading Challenge again in 2023!! Walton took out first spot last year, so hopefully we can win two years running!

To participate, just read a book, and write a review! You get 50 house points and go into the running to win a book prize!

Book Recommendations:

The Walton Book Recommendation for this Month is another one by me. The book is called The Remains of the Day – by Kazuo Ishiguro. This is a wonderful novel, that explores the nature of duty, and the purpose of life. Is the right action, one that always means following the rules and what is expected of you? This book is simple in plot, and very deep in content. I recommend it for intermediate readers who want to sink their teeth into something a little different!

Uniform

A reminder that all students are expected to be in full school uniform. This means the academic uniform, or the sports uniform. Students can’t mix and match the academic and sports uniform. A reminder that as we head into winter, hoodies are not permitted nor are puffer jackets. Please ensure you contact Walton for support if you require assistance in obtaining a uniform. As a whole, the uniform at HPSC has been looking amazing. Let’s keep it up!

Attendance and late arrivals

Attendance has improved so much since last year, well done to all students and families for prioritizing attendance. Please continue to let us know the reason for an absence if it occurs. At HSPC we want students to be having access to as much learning time as possible, so please remember to come on time, all the time 😊

Thank you
