Room 7

This term in Science we are learning about Physical Sciences and the physical characteristics of objects and how this affects their movement. We learnt that objects move as a result of a push or pull force and that forces can be exerted by one object on another through direct contact or from a distance.

This week we focused on balanced and unbalanced forces and as an experiment we played a (friendly) game of Tug of War to experience the push and pull of forces, exploring Newtons' Third Law of Motion: for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Room 9

Room 9 have been working very hard for the past couple of weeks on our assembly item. The students presented an adaptation of the Oliver Jeffers book, “The Great Paper Caper”. The learning taking place along the way, was so rewarding to be a part of. Students shared their ideas for actions, costumes, scenery and props. Collaboration was in full swing with problem solving, listening, trial and error, resilience, reflection, patience and kindness taking place. The paper plane making was certainly a highlight too. The children were so encouraging of one another.

The students also sang the Australian National Anthem accompanied by Key Word Sign. We are increasing our use of KWS in our everyday communications, including words such as; more, finish, toilet, break, okay, work, play, help, like, please, thank-you.

Well done everyone.

Pre Primary

The Pre Primary was very lucky to receive some money from the P&C to buy some new outside play equipment. The request was for some toys that the children could use to build, create and problem solve with, all while working cooperatively and most importantly having fun! We feel so lucky 😊 Even the weather has been magnificent for us to be able to play with them!

Sport

This term in sport we are focusing on basketball skills (dribbling, passing and shooting). Our junior years have been enjoying games of octopus and line chasy to aid their dribbling skills and they have been showing off their shooting ability. Our older students have jumped into modified basketball games as we polish off our skills from past years. We might have some budding basketball stars here at White Gum!

There is a strong focus on teamwork and supporting each other this term, with almost all of our activities this term being team based. At White Gum Valley we always try to cheer on our team and win or lose with grace.

The Senior Students are also busy training for the Winter Carnival. Students from year 5 and 6 will be representing White Gum Valley in the sports of football, soccer and netball on Friday in Week 9 this term. Each week during Senior Sport our teams go through practice led by our awesome Faction Captains and trained by our coaches (the senior block teachers).

We hope to bring home the trophies again this year and would love to see parents there to cheer us on.

AFL

We were also very lucky to get a visit from the Western Australian Football Commission who ran a wonderful AFL clinic for our school. Students from all years took part in kicking and handball drills before taking shots at goal.

Many Congratulations to Rooms 2 and 10 who have both won the Class Attendance Competition during Week 2 and Week 3.

Molly in Year 3 won the individual competition in Week 3. Well done Molly.

You may have received a letter this week asking for an explanation for an unexplained absence over the last couple of weeks. Many thanks for returning them as soon as possible.  This will allow us to update our records.
