Learning Updates

- School of Innovation

We have welcomed our wonderful Year 7 students and fabulous staff back from their Year 7 Camp experience at Camp Howqua! The photos and stories have been greatly appreciated and we are so proud of our St Anne’s College members challenging themselves, supporting each other and helping each other succeed and being their best.

All our School of Innovation students are continuing to engage with a variety of topics and tasks, and we are continuing to offer a range of experiences that develop and showcase our Learner Assets, and building on and progressing our learning, understanding and knowledge in all areas.

Our SOI classes are a hive of learning and I am constantly in awe of the amazing efforts of our students and staff to develop and enhance their learning, their curiosity and motivation to explore and their endeavour to improve.

We will continue to showcase and provide snapshots of our School of Innovation, but in this edition, please enjoy a focus on the Year 7s and their Camp experience.

Thank you!

School Of Innovation ~ Year 7

Students were asked to nominate two words that summed up their camp experience. Here is the Word Cloud of their responses:

Students this week back at school have completed some activities around camp. First students completed a reflection on their favourite activity, how they used the learner assets and school expectations on camp.

Here are a few of their responses:

'My favourite activity was the flying fox. I was so proud when I went on the flying fox and went upside down'.

- Evan Ratcliffe

'The learner assets I used on camp were: collaborator, communicator and self manager. I can now use what I learnt in being a self manager and be on time more often. I demonstrated the school expectations of respecting everyone and everything, helping each other succeed, always being my best and leaving no trace'.

- Blake Cavallaro

'We left school and we jammed our way there; singing and listening to music. We got to Euroa and had morning tea. We then got back on the bus we kept jamming and singing.

Then we arrived at Camp Howqua. First thing was to go through all the rules, get our cabins and get ready for our first activity. The first activity was low ropes where we had to use our collaborator skills to work through them. After that we got ready for our next activity which was high ropes. We got in our harness and we went up. The first one we went out then we did a drop test. The second one was a trapezium when you hold on a bar and walk out. The third one was Tarzan where you go to swing from one to another. Over the next couple of days we did lots of fun and exciting activities'.

- Isabella Robinson

Students also made a brochure for the next year's Year 7 students, so they are able to see Camp Howqua and find out all about it.

School of Innovation ~ Year 8

Year 8 students are completing a Creative Writing Task around a person or activity they are passionate about. It has been awesome to discuss the different language and writing features utilised for this task and comparing and contrasting this with other writing styles.

Yr 8s have also been buzzing about their Cell Model projects where they have been creating a 3D model as part of a project on Plant and animal cells in Science. The model was a task students completed at home and they certainly did not disappoint. Some incredibly creative models have been completed and students have shown an amazing array of skills through the process. Some have left us speechless. Wonderful effort from the year 8 cohort.

Here is just one example, however we were privileged to be provided with a range of models from cakes, to crochet, to physical representations of cells. Awesome Year 8s!

School of Innovation ~ Year 9

The Year 9s are continuing to prepare for their Market Day and are regularly sharing their learning around the nuances of developing products, advertising, target audiences and more. They are completing a number of tasks related to their inquiry and investigation in this space, as well as continuing to undertake a range of activities and tasks in each curriculum area.
