Learning Updates -

School of Wonder

Busy, fun and exciting term

Term 2 is fast slipping away. Weeks 5 and 6 have flown by with many exciting things happening across SOW. We continue to work together to provide opportunities for all of our students to develop their potential as lifelong learners.

Learners continue to focus on becoming researchers. Generating questions is a skill, a skill that needs to be explicitly taught. Teaching our learners to generate questions that are relevant and provoke further thinking, discussion and research is a focus.

Assembly

Our final assembly for Term 2 will occur on Wednesday the 14th of June (after the King’s birthday holiday) at 9.05am on the Turtle Shell. This assembly will be run by Laurel’s pastoral group and will feature many of our SOW students. Special thanks to all of the students who continue to contribute in making our assemblies a success. With each assembly this term, we have watched the audience grow. It is absolutely wonderful to see our families back in our school and celebrating our achievements.

SOW is open!

Post Covid restrictions means that we are open. Our doors are open from 8.30am and we welcome all families to come in when dropping children off. Our Learning Mentors will be in and around our learning spaces and we  welcome the opportunity to meet and greet all families.

3/4 Camp

What an amazing time was had by all. Our camp was nothing short of amazing. So many opportunities for our students to build on their collaborative and leadership skills. It was an absolute pleasure to be a part of and the courage that students showed when completing the many adventurous activities is to be celebrated. There will be lots of photos to come!

P.S. The food wasn’t too bad either!

Sacramental Program

Last Sunday was Pentecost Sunday, both the end of Lent and a special time for our Sacramental candidates as they celebrated their Confirmation and Eucharist at St Mel’s Parish.

Attended by family, friends and members of our community; it was a beautiful celebration led by Fr Peter.

Congratulations to our Sacramental students who should be congratulated on their Confirmation and Eucharist, and also on the outstanding way in which they conducted themselves and represented themselves and our College.

Simultaneous Storytime:

Simultaneous Storytime is a National initiative. National Simultaneous Storytime always occurs on the last Wednesday in May. Teachers and students all around Australia settle down and read the same book, sharing and celebrating literature. This year we had the pleasure of reading The Speedy Sloth. Students listened attentively and completed some wonderful learning activities to enhance their understanding and enjoyment of the book.
