On Thursday 25th May our two Koorie Engagement Student Officers, Rosie and Tammy, returned to our Indigenous Studies class for a painting lesson. They first taught the students a range of Indigenous symbols, as seen in some of the photos. The students were then given the chance to tell a story using paper, paints and the symbols. The results were colourful and creative. The students really enjoyed this chance to explore Indigenous art.
Our Year 8/9 woodwork students have been busy this term making coffee tables and Adirondack chairs. At this stage most of our students are mid way through their projects or nearing completion. Families should start making some space for some new furniture soon!
Last week year 10 students Makayla D and William R were participated in an Indonesian Oral Language Contest (Round 1) held by the VILTA (Victoria Indonesian Language Teacher Association). Both competed successfully and will go on to compete in the final round in Melbourne in July. They answered comprehensively a set of questions about their family, school and hobbies, followed by answering unrehearsed questions about their family, house and daily activities. Students who pass the first round then compete in Melbourne against other students studying Indonesian across the whole of Victoria.
Previously, two students from our school, Jonah Cosgriff and Elizabeth Rose have been awarded fourth place in Victoria.
We wish them all the best! Congratulations to both students and Mrs Ita Rose, Indonesian teacher.
