Wellbeing

Hello all,

I hope this newsletter finds you all in high spirits and thriving in every way. I wanted to take this opportunity in the newsletter to share a thought with you all about the power of learning through experience.

We all know that education is a journey that extends far beyond the walls of a classroom. While textbooks and lectures undoubtedly have their place, it is the experiences we encounter in the real world that truly shape us into active and inclusive citizens.

Here at Edenhope College, we believe in the transformative nature of experiential learning. That's why we have developed a bespoke program specifically designed for our Year 7 and 8 students. This program allows them to step out of the traditional classroom setting and engage in hands-on, immersive experiences that foster personal growth, empathy, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

By participating in our Experiential Learning program, our Year 7 and 8 students have the opportunity to explore different cultures, engage in community service projects, and actively contribute to important causes. Through these experiences, they not only acquire knowledge but also develop critical life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and communication.

We have also just celebrated IDAHOBIT day, a day of celebration and support for the LGBTQ+ community. It is important to highlight how our Experiential Learning program aligns perfectly with the values of inclusivity and active citizenship. By participating in activities that promote understanding and acceptance, our students learn the importance of empathy, respect, and celebrating diversity in all its forms. You may like to explore these short films with your little humans and start a conversation about LGBTQ+ community.

Learning by experience goes beyond just acquiring knowledge; it nurtures the qualities of resilience, adaptability, and open-mindedness. Our Experiential Learning program provides our students with a platform to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds, challenge their own biases, and develop a genuine appreciation for the unique contributions each person brings to our society.

We firmly believe that by empowering our students to engage with the real world, we equip them with the skills and mindset needed to become compassionate, responsible, and active citizens.

So, as we celebrate IDAHOBIT day, let us not only reflect on the importance of inclusivity but also recognise the impact of our Experiential Learning program. Together, we are shaping a generation of students who are not only knowledgeable but also equipped to create positive change in their communities.

You can read more about our Experiential Learning program in this newsletter with an article from Teneisha, and read more about IDAHOBIT day with an article from Ivy.

Next Whytalla, you will also hear about our Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser, which is happening this week. If you’d like to donate you can do so by dropping cash into the school or online via this link:

Join us again as we PUSH FOR BETTER MENTAL HEALTH: 1-23 JUNE

Are you and your family ready for The Push-Up Challenge?

Get fit, have fun, and learn about mental health by taking part with our school in The Push-Up Challenge 2023 as we proudly support our local LifeForce Edenhope & District network with their goal to destigmatise and prevent suicide in our community. Parents and carers will soon receive an invite to join us for the launch on 1 June 2023.

We hope that this June, you and your family will challenge yourselves to complete 3,144 push-ups over 23 days to help put a spotlight on mental health. Do not be concerned if it sounds like too many push-ups. All levels of fitness are welcome and you can aim for half or the full push-up target. Push-ups can be done just about anywhere and you can spread them out over the day. You're also welcome to do alternative exercises if push-ups are not for you. Think sit-ups, squats, or tailored exercises – anything goes. Each family member can aim for half or the full daily push-up target. In our College, our homegroups are competing against each other while we are also challenging Balmoral College to ‘out-push’ us.

We will learn about mental health along the way as the daily push-up target changes each day to reflect a vital mental health statistic. Fundraising is an optional part of the event but a great opportunity to support critical mental health services across Australia. The Push-Up Challenge is proudly supporting The Push for Better Foundation, Movember and Lifeline, and you can choose one of these charities to support when you register. See thepushupchallenge.com.au for more information.
