SENIOR FORMAL – A NIGHT TO BE REMEMBERED

Formal was a night we won’t soon forget! Many great memories were made, including but not limited to the Nutbush and Macarena, which were just some of the songs which pulled everyone to the dance floor. The new addition of the photobooth was a huge success, due to the various silly costumes and comedic students taking advantage of the opportunity. The DJ remedied the students’ concerns as he played song after song, impressing the crowd with his un-aged music bias. The attendees of the night came in some of their fanciest clothing, to dance like there would be no tomorrow.

We would like to thank all the students who made it an enjoyable night with no incidents occurring. We would also like to give a special thanks to Mrs Andrews, Mr Hemsley and the other students and staff who helped to organise the superb night. It is greatly appreciated that all parents and students made the necessary arrangements to get us home on time, safely. We all enjoyed the night and we can’t wait for next year’s formal!

Trivia 28th of August 2019

During term 3, Mr Hemsley had organised as series of different staff vs student activities for all senior school students to be involved in. We were lucky enough to get involved in the senior school trivia challenge that was run in the library at lunch. The catch with the event was that each team of students must have a teacher on their table, except for the principal table who chose to run the gauntlet alone. There were five rounds of trivia that covered strength and weaknesses of all players. It was a really enjoyable lunch as all teams were right in the hunt until the ‘name that specie round’…for most of the teams they could name at least 3 of the species, but the true David Attenborough enthusiasts were able to thrive during this round and proved to be king of the jungle at the end. We would like to thank Mr Hemsley for all the effort and organisation that he’s gone through to organise these events as all the students really enjoyed it.

CAMP MAHAIKAH

Year 12 students completed maintenance work at our school camp in Tolmie, Victoria, last week. Some of these students have been attending Mahaikah for three years to complete maintenance projects and this camp was a great reflection on their efforts. A beautiful merbau decking was built against the Common Room of the main building, facing the small “lake”. This will be a great area for teachers to group students or for families to sit and bask in the sun when the venue is privately hired. We are on the lookout for the next batch of Mahaikah Maintenance students to keep this camp fresh!

SENIOR PROJECTS

Year 12 students are completing their senior projects and are beginning preparations for their set of interview-style formal presentations. Students must present their Numeracy projects and their Senior WRS/PDS project to a panel of VCAL teachers in order to complete Unit 2 for each subject. Students have been busy completing their projects and portfolios over the past month. The last day for Year 12 students at school is Monday October 21st. Students have a Valedictory celebration breakfast and assembly on Wednesday October 24th.
