Acting Principal's Message

Shaun Doherty

Principal of the Year - Finalist

I have had the privilege of keeping Amadeo's seat warm this past week following some Long Service Leave that he has been on.  Working closely with Amadeo, I have always had a high respect of the excellent job that he does in leading  our college filled with a dedicated team of staff. I think this respect has grown even more over the past week! This realisation for me coincides with the announcement that Amadeo is a finalist for the 2019 Victorian Education Excellence Awards in the category of Outstanding Secondary Principal.

Thirty-five finalists from government schools across 12 award categories have been shortlisted for the Victorian Education Excellence Awards 2019 and we’re delighted that Amadeo is among the finalists.

Amadeo will attend an award presentation ceremony on 25 October, 2019 at the Plaza Ballroom in Melbourne where the winner will be announced.

Award categories include outstanding primary and secondary teachers, principals and business managers, school improvement, Koorie education, inclusive education and education support. New specialist award categories in 2019 will also recognise excellence in global teaching and learning, and in physical education. All finalists are in the running to win professional development grants of up to $25,000 to support their work in schools.

The Victorian Education Excellence Awards highlight exemplary government school education and innovation in Victoria. The awards demonstrate what success in public education looks like and to be a finalist is a great achievement and should be celebrated.

It is just one way Victorians can be proud of the great government schools in their communities and the people who work in them, highlighting Victoria as the Education State.

Farewell to Lisa Sailer

I know there will be many tears this week as Lisa Sailer, an international student from Austria, returns home after three terms at McClelland. We knew before she arrived just how special Lisa was as she had been representing the national hockey team from Under 14’s. We organised for her to play for one of Victoria’s premier clubs, Waverley where she has recently played finals in her junior team as well as playing in the senior women’s team as well. But this is not all she got involved with. Lisa really immersed herself into the culture of the school and in particular the performing arts. She performed in front of hundreds on stage at the Frankston Arts Centre in Wakakirri as well as being heavily involved in the student led performances Project Direct. Lisa, with her ever present smile and positivity I’m sure has left a mark on students and staff that she has had contact with. We want to wish Lisa all the best for when she returns to her family and friends and hope that one day she returns to visit McClelland College, her home away from home.

Enjoy the break (work hard year 12 VCE students!)

With another successful term coming to a close, I want to wish all of the staff, students and families a great Term 3 break. As our VCE Year 12 students move into this break period, I am sure they will be pleased that most SACs have been completed and their focus can now move to the Exams. It may be a break from school the next two weeks, but this is the golden time for revision. Good luck to all students involved and we look forward to seeing how well you go in your trial exams in the second week of the break.
