Quarantine/Karanténa
Student blogs about quarantine/Studentské blogy o karanténě
These blogs were originally written in French for a French class. Well done to the students for being able to express themselves so well in French.
ONE WEEK IN QUARANTINE
Let me tell you about my first week in quarantine....
At the beginning I thought it would be great, that we could rest a bit, but after three days I started to miss my friends and my social life.
After a week, the government increased the quarantine by one month. That meant more little arguments in the family, more trips to the supermarket to stock up on food, and more boredom...
The following days were all the same, but let me summarise some of the positive and negative sides of the quarantine:
Positives:
Family - Without your family it wouldn’t be fun. It’s great to have more time to spend with them
Yourself- You can concentrate on yourself and make the most of the isolation. Take care of your skin, do sport, look after you mental health
You have not lost your friends!!- You can still call them, send messages to them and be all the more excited to see them when it’s all over
You can get up later- You do not have to go to school so what not sleep a little longer? You will be able to concentrate better after a long sleep
Negatives:
It’s so boring! - You run out of things to do and get bored easily
Too much screen time - Because of online school, you spend about 8 hours per day in front of the computer. It’s not good for your eyes!
Family - Since you are spending so much time with them, they get on your nerves more easily and that might mean that you have to stay with your aunt for a few weeks (as I did!)
You get paranoid - Because of the whole pandemic, you get paranoid about going out. You could easily fall ill and pass it on to your family. You live in fear!!!
It’s tiring, but fun!!

Pozitiva:
Rodina - Bez rodiny by to nebylo zábavné.
Můžete vstávat později - Nemusíte chodit do školy, takže co třeba pospat si trochu déle?
Negativa:

LIFE IN QUARANTINE
I have not gone out for two weeks!
After around 380 cases of coronavirus in the Czech Republic, we all ended up in quarantine.
...and the result:
Lots of Netflix.
Let me tell you about it: the days are beautiful and full of sunshine, but Prague is totally deserted. The schools are closed and lots of restaurant and bar staff have ended up unemployed. Everyone stays at home and only goes out to go to the supermarket, or a quick walk around the neighborhood. But also prices on rent are going down, so that’s nice.
For me, it’s not the end of the world. I have a garden, a swimming pool, a library, my family and my cat. And, of course, Netflix. For the first few days, I was waking up at around 8am to take part in online lessons, but recently I started getting up at around 7am in order to enjoy a nice breakfast with coffee (which I highly recommend).
At the start I thought the online lessons would be tiring and that I wouldn't learn half as much as I usually would. What worried me the most is that the lessons would not be enjoyable, and that I would not be able to talk to my friends during the breaks. But that’s not the case...
Far from it! On the first day I called my friends during the breaks and we chatted. It was really nice to speak to them, to see how they’re getting on. Later that night, for dinner I prepared a meal for the whole family. I cooked risotto with vegetables and Italian cheese and we drank a little bit of wine with the meal. I truly recommend for you to spend some time with your family in these unpredictable times - even if you have to facetime your sister to have a family dinner.
And then the next day was identical.
And the day after that was identical.
So, how do we stay physically and psychologically healthy during the quarantine?
Call your friends, stay connected
Watch something you’ve never had time for on Netflix
Do some exercise at home. Here is a great video:
Cook something new. You might be a little surprised, but I guarantee your mum will thank you.
Read books that you didn’t have the time to read before.
