Principal's Report

Dear Families,

I hope everyone enjoys a well-earned holiday break. Hopefully we get some spring sunshine over the two weeks.

I can’t believe how quickly the year is going. I'm excited for Term Four events including the following:

  • Year 2 & 3 Camps
  • Thank you morning tea for musical  & parent helpers
  • Life Education
  • P-2 Swimming Lessons
  • Sacrament of Confirmation
  • Art Show
  • DOGS Camps
  • Carols
  • Year 6 end of year events

A reminder that in Term Four our Sun Smart Policy is in place. All students are required to wear a Galilee School Hat. If the weather is still cool at the beginning of Term Four, students may wear their winter uniform until Monday 29th October when all students are expected to be in full summer uniform.

Lion King Jr.

I was inspired by the performances of our students at yesterday's Lion King Jr musical with 900 in the audience across the two performances. The talent of our Galilee students is amazing and they should all be very proud.

A special mention to Carmen Carnovale who has worked tirelessly on the production including coming in for holiday rehearsals with students. It is Galilee and Carmen's first musical which makes the performance even more extraordinary. I will forever remember the performance of our amazing students and know that it will remain in their memories for years to come. The confidence to perform in front of an audience being taught to our students. Thank you to all staff for adapting to changes and helping with rehearsals. To the many parents who volunteered time before or on the day of the performances, your help is greatly appreciated  and certainly contributed to a successful musical. A big thanks to Bernie and Renatta Catering for delivering staff and student dinners out of normal lunch delivery hours. Many thanks to Dean Fenech for transporting items to and from the venue in his truck. You were a great help and saved us a lot of time and possible sore backs!

Lastly, thank you to all parents, friends, family members, past students and staff for attending and supporting the wonderful cast at the shows.

It was a night that Galilee united together as one!

House Names

Over 2018 there has been a process of reviewing the House Names. It began with a Year 6 student, Joel Biddick writing me a letter.

The Year 6 students then conducted surveys with the students, staff & parents. Thankyou to Miss Biggs for organising the surveys with Mr Coaley.

The results were shown to the Parish Priests and the School Education Board.

Then a School Community Team (made up of staff, students and parents) concluded the process with the names being established below:

St Joseph’s (Joeys) - White

Sts. Peter & Paul (Saints) - Green

OLMC (Carmels) - Blues

Sacred Heart (Hearts) - Maroon

The House Captains announced them at assembly this week.

The new House Names will be used at our Swimming Carnival on Friday November 16.

Farewell Brittany

Today we said goodbye to Mrs Brittany Ford. Mrs Ford who has been at Galilee for seven years and we thank her for her time and dedication.

Brittany is joining the team at Catholic Education Melbourne as a Religious Education Learning Consultant. Miss Julie Ferguson will be joining Galilee in Term Four.

Walk to School

On Tuesday 18 September, Harry (1S) participated in the AFL Walk to School program with the captain from the Essendon Football Club, Dyson Heppell.  Read more about it in the article below.

Red Cross

Congratulations to the Year 4G students who successfully raised $92.30 for Red Cross

DOGs

Over the last three years Paul Mapley has been the inaugural leader of the DOGs. Throughout this time there have been a number of new initiatives leading to a greater engagement of the fathers of students of Galilee including: monthly meetings, Father-Child Camp and much more. I thank Paul for the extraordinary contribution he has made to our community. Unfortunately, 2018 will be his last year leading the DOGs with his daughter, Siena, going into to Year 6 in 2019. We would ideally like Paul to be involved for a year with a new leader in 2019. If there are any fathers wishing to take on this role in 2019, please contact Paul Mapley.

5 Minute Parking

A reminder that there is 5 minute parking allocated at the front of the school for drop off only.  Please refrain from using these car parks to park for longer than 5 minutes.

Speaking With Power

Congratulations to all the Year 5 students for successfully completing the Speak With Power program with Ron Thomas.  The students have had six sessions with Ron, developing skills in public speaking and writing speeches to engage an audience.  On Wednesday, both grades presented their individual speech to an audience made up of students, teachers and parents.  Congratulations to Sofia T and Ali C for winning the Speak With Power trophies.

Staff Leave

I will be on Long Service Leave for the first week of Term Four and return on Tuesday October 16. Mrs Gerecke and Mr Martello will be Acting Principals in my absence. Once I return, we will announce some changes to staffing for 2019.

Change of PE day

There will be a permanent change to Year 3 and 4P PE days in Term 4.  Year 3 will need to wear their Sport Uniform on Thursday and 4P will need to wear their Sport Uniform on Tuesday.  4G will continue to have PE on Thursday.
