Diamond

Life in Diamond

We have had a busy few weeks of learning and some special events too!

- 5/6 bubbies are a hit with Diamond. We have been meeting up and cooking, reading and building friendships with Coral Community.

- Tori has been with us as a Pre Service Teacher for the last 5 weeks. It is her last week and we wish her all the best finishing her degree. We will miss her!!

- We also learnt all about Didgeridoos and how they are made and played!

Onyx

It has been a crazy couple of weeks in Onyx since the last school newsletter went out.

In our Writing and Literature sessions we have been learning all about Fairy Tales and how to write an interesting Narrative this term. Students have learnt how the structure of an interesting Narrative has an Orientation, Complication and Resolution. They have been practising how to write ‘Sizzling Starts’ and ‘Exciting Endings’ using lots of different ideas and prompts. Your children may have told you that our classroom was recently ransacked by a couple of monkey’s that escaped the zoo. Parent, please don’t be alarmed…..this was one of the prompts that was set up to spark the imagination of our students in Onyx and inspire some interesting stories from them.

We also had our visit to Fairy Park last week which was lots of fun for all of the students in Year 1/2. We saw lots of puppets and characters displayed from all of the classic fairy tales we have read so far this term. It was a very tiring day but both students, teachers and parent helpers had a fund day. The playground was probably the favourite thing for most of the students at the end of the day! Thank you to the Morgan, Rae & Hannah’s Mums for helping out on the day and all the other parents that offered to help.

Emerald

This semester Emerald community has begun working on their Inquiry topic, ‘Design and Innovation’. As part of their learning on the topic, the children were lucky enough to be involved in the Brickworks incursion. The children were set a challenge to design a LEGO city in collaboration with their peers. The children moved to different stations to ‘innovate’ designs which had already been created and eventually joined all their separate cities together. We can’t wait to see where this Inquiry topic leads us next!

Amethyst

Semester two began with all Amethyst students getting their inventor's hats on for their inquiry topic 'Design and Innovation'.  Students have enjoyed discovering important aspects of the innovation process through designing and constructing objects to solve challenging problems.  Students have had the opportunity to learn from industry professionals during two inquiry expos and have put their knowledge and skills into practice through designing and constructing a lego city during a 'Brickworks' incursion.

Turquoise

Literacy

In Turquoise Community, we have been finishing up our work on examining and creating Explanation Texts. Students have written pieces about the mechanical and body movements involved with athletic events.

Book week was a success! Well done to all student who dressed up!

For the next six weeks (into term 4) we will be investigating the Discussion text type. This will involve writing our own discussion texts and participating in live debates.

Numeracy

We have been investigating the operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). Students have completed this through both hands-on and real-life experiences. We have also been using our knowledge of number to help us sort and represent data using different visual representations. Students have looked at Measurement and Geometry as well this term. It has been a busy time for mathematics learning!

Inquiry

Recently Grade 5/6 students attended the Werribee Plaza Walkabout Excursion to deepen their understanding of Business and Innovation. We look forward to learning more and eventually creating our own businesses!

Reminders

Please send back notes and payments to your child’s home group teacher as soon as possible.

Label your child’s belongings, our Lost Property box is starting to overflow.

Students should be completing their home-learning - the minimum is nightly reading, practising spelling words and completing set tasks on learning apps.
