Year 5, Zine scene!

In 2017 the Year 5 teachers ran a zine workshop for their students. The intention of the workshop was to explore the purpose of zines, to read and reflect on existing zines, learn techniques to create zines, and to experiment with layout and design, (e.g. stamping, collage, colour, shading).  Students then created their own masterpieces. Through their zines, students expressed funny, informative and reflective ideas, publishing and sharing works they had written through inquiry and writers workshop.

Unexpectedly, and with short notice, ASPS had an incredible opportunity to participate in the Zine Fair at Melbourne Town on Sunday, February 2nd, 2018.  Clementine, Halle, Polly, Will, Emma C, Ananya, Ari, Sathya, Addison, Jess, Ms Janover, Ms Corrigan, Ms Hollingsworth & Ms Endersby worked tirelessly to gather ASPS zines for the stall. Over 50 zines were sold, with some of the profits used to purchase zines from other stalls for our library.

ASPS was among the stand out stalls, with a State Library representative and a Brunswick Gallery owner both requesting ASPS zines for their respective exhibits. Currently there is a [small] Zine Exhibition in the ASPS library. There are also [some] blank zines for you to take and create your own!

Please feel welcome to come and view the exhibition and if you have made a zine, bring it to the library – we would love to see it!
