Science Talent Search

2018 Science Talent Search

The Science Talent Search (STS) is an annual science based competition open to all primary and secondary students in Victoria, Australia. It promotes creative, self-motivated project work through open-minded multi-disciplinary projects.

Science Talent Search fits closely with the Victorian Curriculum and our IB PYP philosophy. The STS theme for 2018 is: ‘Australian Game Changers and Change Makers’ and as can be seen on the front cover of the handbook it covers a wide range of sciences.  There are nine sections students can choose to enter. The sections are described in detail in the STS Handbook. There are set topics for Creative Writing and Posters/Scientific Wallcharts sections only.

The competition runs externally and students will mainly be conducting the projects at home. There will be STS meetings running on Tuesday lunchtimes mainly for mentoring and project working time.

Registration closing date: Monday 28th May (Only the STS coordinator can register students)

Entry fees: Individual $8 per entry; Group (maximum 2 students) $15 per entry.

TheSTS Website www.sciencevictoria.com.au/sts has all the information and guidelines you need about the competition.

Be sure to look at the “For Students and Parents” pages and “STS handbook.” Judging day with the exception of the two categories Experimental Research and Creative writing will take place on Saturday 4th August.  This is a unique opportunity for students to shine while presenting their projects to a panel of teachers.

You can access guidelines, competition rules and General Information for each section at the front of the handbook.

Division Codes are as follows: Year Level Lower Primary L Prep to Year 2, Middle Primary M Year 3 & 4, Upper Primary P Years 5 & 6

Please see the project references for ideas and the registration form that needs to be filled in and returned to the school office to the attention of  Ms K as soon as possible.
