PARTY Program
On Monday 23rd July, 2018 a group of ten Year 10 and Year 11 students who are interested in careers in the health industries attended the P.A.R.T.Y Program in Shepparton. The Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth (P.A.R.T.Y.) program is a dynamic and interactive injury awareness and prevention program. P.A.R.T.Y. uses vivid clinical reality to show participants the consequences that can occur when engaging in risk-taking behaviour. The P.A.R.T.Y. program at The Alfred Hospital is currently delivered in two facets to senior school students. The In-hospital program, which is a one day program that runs within The Alfred; and the off-site program called Outreach, which utilises regional performing arts centres as venues. In our case our students were able to attend the outreach program at Riverlinks in Shepparton.
P.A.R.T.Y. aims to provide participants with information that will enable them to recognise potential injury-producing situations, make prevention-oriented choices, and adopt behaviours that minimise unnecessary risk.
We would not have been able to attend this program without the generous funding given to us by The Youth Op-Shop in Cobram who provided the funds for the bus and lunch for the students who attended. As the program not only got rave reviews from those who attended but our C.S.C student were praised for their respect and their enthusiasm on the day. We will be looking to offer the opportunity to more students the next time the P.A.R.T.Y program outreaches to our area as it was a great experience and very informative for all.
