Heads Report
Secondary Heads Report - Dianne Cameron and Hugh Howey
It has been a very busy couple of weeks with many functions and events being held across the Secondary school.
Stage 5 Information Night
We recently held the Stage 5 information night on the William Cowper Campus. At the Stage 5 night Mr Smith briefly spoke about his passion for the middle years being meaningful and relevant to equip our students to become independent with guidance. Mr Doran spoke about the upcoming expeditions for Year 9 and Year 10. Mr Jason Little, the program director from Outward Bound also presented to Year 10 parents about the holistic nature of the program and their involvement through the ‘rites of passage’ theme. Mr Marchetto and Mr Lawson also presented about setting Stage 5 students up for success in terms of assessments and organisation.
Stage 6 Information night
The Stage 6 Information night was held on the Brisbane Street Campus on Monday, 24 February. This night was tailored to the senior years in terms of the preliminary and HSC course requirements and the support available. Mr Marchetto emphasised the need to develop study skills through note-taking and retrieval. Mrs Heywood and Mr Fletcher then discussed their roles as Leaders of Wellbeing. At the end of the evening, Year 11 and Year 12 parents then split off into two groups where information was provided relevant to each year group’s needs.
PowerPoint Presentations and videos of both evenings are available on the Hub on each Year Group page.
Leadership Induction Assemblies
Leadership Induction Assemblies were held recently to acknowledge many different roles within our community. Those receiving badges made the following promises:
“I pledge to be encouraging, to be enthusiastic and to promote the growth
of all students. I promise to work for the good of all students in the school community. I promise to serve my fellow students. As a student leader I will
act responsibly and with fairness and consideration for others.
With God’s help, I so promise.”
We wish these leaders well and look forward to witnessing their contribution to our community. There are full lists of our new Leaders in our Secondary Notices.
Open Day
Open Day was a very busy day with a large number of visiting families coming to look around. Our grateful thanks must go to the many staff who greeted our visitors or provided classroom displays. The student guides who hosted these families are to be commended for the wonderful job they did leading tours.
Experience Day - Week 9
On Friday March 27, we will again welcome visitors to our annual Experience Day. Students will be preparing for House competitions on this day with both House Music and the War-cry competitions to take place. These activities involve the whole of the Secondary School, promote healthy competition and provide practical leadership opportunities for our senior students.
High standards of Uniform and Dress
In order maintain high standards of uniform and dress, could we ask you to support the school in addressing hair length and jewellery. Specifically the school’s Guide to wearing the uniform states the following:
Hair
Hair should be neat and tidy. Hair styles must be conventional (eg. no unkempt hair, shaved sections of hair/eyebrows, undercuts, mohawks, gel, uneven grades, shorter than a ‘number 2’, etc).
