Message from the College Acting Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

On behalf of the Tarneit P9 College staff, I would like to extend a very warm thank you for all your support throughout 2019. We are very fortunate to work with such a beautiful community, dedicated to supporting our amazing students.

A few other special mentions to end our year:

  • I would like to take this opportunity to thank and acknowledge Miss Paris Spencer, Mr Mark Zahra and Mr Matt Naudi who did a fantastic job in leading our College while I was away. On behalf of our whole College – thank you! We appreciated all your hard work and on a personal note, it meant a lot to me knowing Tarneit P9 College was in such good hands.
  • A very big thank you to our School Council President Robert Wall and school council members Jennifer Treloar, Rawia Arakji, Kristy Mathieson, Anne Marie Parkinson and Emma Gilman for their dedication and support of our College Council.
  • We would also like to express our gratitude to Alicia Wright for all her hard work leading the Parent Association this year. Alicia has been amazing in this role for a number of years now, giving up so much of her time to organise key events at our school. Thank you Alicia – we appreciate everything you have done for Tarneit P9 College.
  • To our many volunteers who have assisted in the library, in our classrooms, with fundraisers, our swimming program and excursions – thank you very much. We have appreciated your support and enjoyed having you at our school.
  • Congratulations to Alphoncine  Jule  who last week was awarded our School Council Young Leader for 2019, for making significant contributions to Tarneit P9 College . Alphoncine is a SLEEPY mentor, an active member of the Student Representative Council (SRC) and who takes on informal and formal leadership within the school and in the wider Tarneit Community. She voluntarily assisted with the homeless drive and consistently demonstrates the school values, taking part in leading community events at our school. Congratulations Alphoncine!
  • We would also like to acknowledge Manvir Kaur Anand and Jye Johnson who were awarded the Young Leaders encouragement award. This special School Council award recognises the leadership attributes of our students across the College.
  • Yesterday we were very fortunate to have Ted; the owner of Big Child Care attend our assembly and present our School Captains with a giant cheque for $10 000 dollars to put towards an initiative of our choice. Our community was overwhelmed by the generosity of this gift, and we are looking forward to working with our student representatives to come up with a plan to use this money to further improve our school.
  • Finally, I would like to extend a very big thank you to our very talented students and fantastic staff – you make our school a wonderful place to come every day!

Have a wonderful holiday everyone and we are looking forward to seeing you all in 2020.

Kind Regards

Messages from Assistant Principals

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a big end to the year it has been for our Prep – Year 2 students! It’s been fantastic to see all of our students engaged in their learning right throughout this busy time.

Special mention must go to our Prep students who celebrated the end of their first year of schooling with a special celebration in the gym. It was great to see all the parents in attendance and the song performed by our students was an absolute hit! Congratulations to all of our prep students and teachers,  you have worked very hard this year and it is very rewarding to see all the growth our students have shown.

A recent highlight for our Year 1 students was the ‘Dash into Robotics’ incursion. Coordinated by Earth Ed, our students experienced a fun-filled hands on introduction to working with robots. Our students used iPads to make simple commands and complete challenges using the robots.

Our Year 2 students have been busy writing fractured fairy tales and having fun creating alternate endings to traditional fairy tales. Our students have been highly engaged in this writing process and have thoroughly enjoyed sharing their work with their peers.

Kind Regards

Acting Assistant Principal P-2

Dear Parents / Carers,

Can you believe we are at the end of another school year? We have made so many cherished memories over 2019 and would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our family and friends for your ongoing support over the year.

This Term the Year 3 and 4 teachers recognised the children in their classes who consistently demonstrate our school values Learning, Inclusive, Responsible and Pride ever day over the whole year. One child from each class was nominated and we celebrated with them during a special lunch time picnic.

Our Year 3 children had a special visit from Tarneit North Kinder, the Kinder kids came into our classrooms to get an insight of what school is really like. Our children shared some of their work they are proud of and showed them around their classroom whilst joining together for morning tea. Our children were friendly and supportive whilst helping the Kinder kids prepare for transition to Primary School next year.

We would like to wish all of our school community a safe and joyful holiday break.

I encourage all of our children to spend time outside being active over the summer break, ask a trusted adult to go for a bike ride with you, walk the dog, or head to the local beach for a swim. With the weather warming up be sure to drink lots of water and play safely!

Kind Regards

Dear Parents and Carers,

Can you believe we are almost at the end of another school year? Where does the time go!? This week we saw our Year 6 students reach a milestone in their schooling, as they completed their primary schooling. I would like to congratulate all of these students for a fantastic year and thank all the Year 6 teachers for all of their hard work this year. For those students that will be moving on to different schools next year, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you the best of luck and thank you for all of your contributions to our college during your time here. For all of our Year 6 students, please enjoy a well-deserved break as recharge your batteries and you prepare to embark on next stage of your school journey.

I was very proud to attend the Year 5 Assembly this week to celebrate the learning growth off all students inside and outside of the classroom. It was fantastic to see lots of students achieve excellence on the learning ladder, receive recognition for their high attendance, as well as the substantial growth in their reading levels. A special mention must go to both Chris Yan and Sosakmak Mom who scored in the top 1% in Australia in the ICAS Maths and Science competitions.

Our Year 6 boys went out to Galvin Park earlier in the term to compete in our region’s division finals, after winning the school round of the boy’s cricket. They took on schools from all around the Wyndham area, going undefeated throughout the tournament. A great effort from the Year 6 boys cricket team.

To all our families, have a great break over the summer holidays. We look forward to seeing you in 2020!

Kind Regards,

Barry Devlin

Assistant Principal Years 6-7

Dear Parents and Carers,

What an exciting end to the year we’ve had! I’m sure you would agree that our recent Health Night and Spring Showcase were a wonderful experience for all of our students, teachers and parents, and a chance to celebrate the fantastic work that happens in these curriculum areas. Thank you to all who attended!

This week you received your child’s completed Learning Portfolio for the year. We hope you had chance to sit down and celebrate all of their achievements and efforts and admire their work samples. On Wednesday we also held our annual ‘Step Up Morning’ where all students spent time with their new teachers and classmates – there was lots of excitement and our new classes all worked beautifully together!

The school year may be almost over but there are many opportunities for learning to continue during the holidays. You could spend time at the library, or check out the local community events.  Activities such as writing a postcard or keeping a holiday journal, starting a reading competition with friends, cooking and crafting together, signing up to a sports team, and many more, all help to continue your child’s learning across the curriculum.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy holiday season, and we look forward to seeing you all in 2020!

Kind regards,

Claire Tierney
