An Update from Mrs Cosentino

Passion Friday Extracurricular Activities

At South Melbourne Park, we want students to have opportunities to discover their passion. Every Friday we have time for students to explore their interests that may lead to passion. In the Prep classes students are exploring art, soccer, book and film making on iPads, and singing and dancing. Team multi-age are investigating how inventions have impacted our world.

Research tells us that through active exploration and extracurricular involvement, your child is able to get more information that would direct them towards finding their passion. South Melbourne Park offers: Taekwondo, Chess, Youngballers (Soccer), Young Engineers (STEM), Kidko performing arts, instrumental music and vocal lessons, Basketball, Lego Club and swimming. We are introducing Minecraft as a lunchtime club activity and the library will be open on Wednesday lunchtime.

Below are useful links to assist your child with discovering his/her passion.

Parent Opinion Survey

The Parent Opinion Survey for 2019 is now open. This is an opportunity to have your say about South Melbourne Park.  We ask that you do not ‘sit on the fence’ but have strong opinions either way when completing the survey.

Athletics Day

We had our very first Athletics Day on Tuesday 30 July.  I would like to acknowledge the work of our physical education teacher, Jake Mutimer for organising this outstanding event. Thank you Families & Friends and the parents who assisted on the day. Our prep students experienced sprint, tunnel ball, shuttle relay, long jump and vortex events. Team multi-age competed in shot put, discus, long and triple jump, high jump, hurdles and track events. It was also great to partner up with South Melbourne Primary School. The weather was kind and I am sure everyone had a wonderful time. Older students who performed well will compete at a district level.

Japanese Students Visited South Melbourne Park

We had the pleasure of hosting a small group of 12 students and their teacher from Kobe Japan on Monday 5 August.  The students are staying with Mac Robertson Girls High students as part of an international exchange program. The students visited classrooms and had a tour of our school.  They were amazed to see the open spaces and the modern facilities that our children are so privileged to call their school.

Bike Education Training - Are You Interested?

Later on in the year we plan to offer our students Bike Ed. In preparation for this program, we would like to ask if there are parents willing to assist us in training students in bike safety. Please contact the school if you are interested in training as a bicycle instructor assistant.

The training is offered over two mornings. For more information about Bike Ed training dates and venues, open the link below. Please note the school will pay for the training fee of $187.
