National Reconciliation Week

Hello MGC,

We would like to start by acknowledging the Wurundjeri-willam people of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional owners of the land which we are on, and pay respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

As you may be aware, we are currently at the end of National Reconciliation Week (NRW), a time to reflect on how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. Reconciliation, in the words of Reconciliation Australia, is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians.

The week is framed by two significant dates in reconciliation history - the successful 1967 Referendum (27th of May), and the High Court Mabo decision (3rd of June).

If you are interested in learning more about the history of the week, take a look at the Reconciliation Victoria website: http://www.reconciliationvic.org.au/act/reconciliation-week

As a way to acknowledge this, you may have seen slides on the TV’s around the school featuring prominent Indigenous Australians whose work we wish to highlight.
