Middle Years

Personalising timetables for learning, physical activity, creatively and socialising during remote learning

Learning from home has been challenging in terms of uprooting our normal routine of going to school, listening for bells and socialising with peers and staff. To help stay in a routine as we transition over the next month to coming back to school, here are a few tips:

  • Create a timetable which has your scheduled classes (colour coded), allocated break times for snacks, exercise and socialising
  • Set alarms for those times throughout the day to help you stick to time limits
  • Challenge yourself physically – this could be a 30 day challenge of an increasing number of sit-ups or a challenge like the cross country walking/running via Strava next week
  • Challenge yourself creatively – this could be writing lyrics or stories, playing a musical instrument, drawing, cooking.

To help construct a timetable, here is an example of one used by a student in Year 9. I made something similar for myself! It has really helped to remind me to move as often as possible and take time out from working, which helps me to focus and be productive when I do work.
