Return to School

Dates

The DET has called a statewide student free day on May 25 to allow teachers to prepare for the return of students.

May 26 will see the return of all Year 11 and 12 students.

Year 10 students who are doing an early start VCE subject are expected to attend school for their VCE subject.  If travel time prevents them from being home for their next remote class they may stay onsite to complete that class.

Tuesday, 9th June will see the return of all students to school.

Timetable

We will continue with the remote learning timetable for the year 7-10 students learning from home, however year 11 and 12 students on their return to school will follow the times in the standard school timetable.

These two timetables may result in an overlap in some teacher duties in period 4.   Where this occurs the teacher impacted will leave independent learning tasks for remote learning and will not be accessible during that time.

Hand Sanitiser

Although the Department is providing hand sanitiser for students and staff at school we do suggest that parents purchase a pocket sized sanitiser for students to use to and from school.

Face to Face

We are all looking forward to a bit more normality when students and teachers return to school, however we do acknowledge that we have all been through a very unusual period of time in history that will have impacted on individuals in different ways. Classes will look a little different for the first week or so as we ease our way back into the swing of things.  We are planning a series of strategies that teachers will use in class to help students reintegrate and connect with their peers.

Teachers will devise lesson plans that provide them an opportunity to conference with each student about their learning and experience throughout the remote learning period.

We will also have some fun activities at lunchtime to celebrate all being back together again including a theme dress day.

Stay tuned for more information.

Mobile Phones

The Department of Education policy regarding mobile phones is that phones must remain in student lockers during the school day.  We have been advised that this policy has not changed for the return of students to school.  We understand that many families will have required their children to have the COVID19 Tracking app on their phone to assist with tracking the spread of the virus.  We are advised that given the school is a controlled environment with attendance been taken every day this app is not required at school.  As a result, our usual expectations and protocols will be in place around monitoring mobile phones.  These include:

  • Students must leave their phone in their locker during the school day
  • If students have their phones in class or the yard they will be asked to hand them over to a teacher
  • The teacher will place the phone in a sealed plastic bag and deliver the phone to the general office
  • The phone can be collected from the general office after 3:15pm.

It is more important than ever that students follow this process as the way we use mobile phones have the potential to pick up germs and transmit them the more they are handled.

School Uniform

The feedback from our students has been that they have enjoyed remote learning as they have been able to relax in their PJs and trackies during the day.  On return to school all students are expected to be in full school uniform.  Even though the weather is cooler additional non school layer such as hoodie are not acceptable and must not be worn (EVEN UNDERNEATH).  Students have the following options for additional layers:

  • Underwear such as singlets, thermal layers etc
  • School Polo shirt
  • Rugby top
  • School Jumper
  • School jacket
  • School pants (unseen leggings or tights may be worn underneath)
  • School skirt with navy tights

As always, we understand there are circumstances where a student may temporarily be unable to wear a piece of uniform.  Where this is the case the student will need to report to the Assistant Principal's Office to collect a uniform pass before 9am.  No further action will be taken for students who have bought a note explaining the issue.  Students who do not have a note will be required to attend a lunchtime detention that day.
