DESIGN TECHNOLOGY - REMOTE LEARNING

As part of the Year 10 Design Technology elective, taught by Ms Roden, students were given a theme for their unit of textile work of:

A country or a culture of their choice.

Students started this task at school and then worked on it as part of their remote learning program during Term 2.

Students were required to complete research of all things relating to their chosen country, including fashion, ceramics, buildings, characters, patterns, tiles, architecture, food and animals. They then did drawings from these pictures and turned their drawings into textile designs using textile techniques taught in class.

Students were taught ways to embellish their t-shirt/textile design such as hand stitching, machine stitching (whilst still at school), and applique.

Their final t-shirt/textile design, which was completed at home, needed to strongly reflect their comprehensive visual diary work of their chosen country or culture.

Thank you for sharing your amazing work with us, Michelle Guo (Year 11) and Aaron McCann (Year 10).

“I chose Japanese culture to be the main style in my design. So all of my elements are light and airy in style. The Ukiyo-e waves and cranes are meant to create this atmosphere and also add contrast. The Sakura (blossoms) are shown on the sleeve and are the easiest and most obvious symbol of Japanese culture. The main part is a Geisha girl, who is another representative character in Japanese culture. I used red, yellow, blue and added black to create contrast. Because the three primary colours are more expressive, simultaneously, the combination of cold and warm can also make the picture more dynamic. Also, black is used to highlight the main body”.

“My shirt design is of four anime characters, three from a supreme godlike anime called Konosuba, and the other is a character from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. The two faces at the top are Megumin and Darkness from Konosuba and were referenced from my practice fabric designs. They took longer than expected to finish, and the character on the bottom was a combination of Aqua from Konosuba and Jotaro from JoJo, which took wayyyy WAYYYYY longer than I had imagined to finish.”
