MUSIC NEWS

As we head to the end of term and semester, I want to congratulate all the music students and teachers for adapting to the ever changing way that we have studied music over the last term. It has been terrific to witness such amazing adaptability.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Congratulations to the Orchestra for their performance at the first online General Assembly on Friday 19 June. The standard of playing was incredibly high and it was wonderful to see and hear you after a few months of no ensemble rehearsals. Congratulations to Lachlan Edis (Year 12) who sang the National Anthem at the start of the assembly. Thank you to Ms Tracy Videon for her work over the past few months and in the last few weeks for ensuring that the ensemble were ready to play.

GIGS ON THE GREEN

After a few months of no playing, it is absolutely fantastic that the outside concert season has started again. The Year 12 Band has kicked off the amazing season with a highly anticipated return on Wednesday 24 June. Thank you to the team who organised this to occur and we look forward to a few more performances next term.

TAKE HOME INSTRUMENTS FOR THE HOLIDAYS

A reminder that students need to take their instruments home with them for the holidays - we will not be able to access the building during the break, so remember to take your instrument home to continue your great work.

A further reminder about requirements for music moving forward:

  • Concerts will be held online during Term 3. These may be live stream, or they may be video compilations - but at this stage there will be no late evening concerts held.
  • Students will require their own folder for music for ensembles, or a fully charged chromebook. In many instances ensemble folders will not be shared at this stage. A lot of music will be accessible by students in an electronic format (as it has been whilst we have been working remotely) and if students wish for a hard copy, they can print their own copy out.
  • Students who use larger instruments (tubas, baritone saxophones etc) will have one assigned to them that will be in use by that student alone.
  • Entry to all ensemble rehearsals will ensure that we have no congregating of students in the foyer.
  • The layout of the rehearsal room will be slightly different, with more space between instruments and the director of the ensemble.
  • All brass and woodwind students will need to have a small hand towel that they bring with them to lessons and rehearsals.

Classroom

  • All students will require their own headphones for classes in A05 - no headphones will be supplied to any student.
