Dance Mob

Elaine Chung, Year 10  St Michael

Today, on the 15th of June, Lolly, a dance instructor came to Killester College to teach the students different types of dance. The Year 10 class of St Michael,  Ms Sadler’s class, joined the Year 8 class of St Faustina, Mr Brodie’s class. To begin, Lolly asked the students if they wanted to do some “girly dances” that are “Beyonce-like” but, to her surprise, no one wanted to dance like Beyonce. She then asked if the girls were interested in “African-inspired” dances, and a good percentage of the girls raised their hands. Lolly was delightfully surprised and proceeded to play upbeat and fun music to dance to. In the beginning, Lolly taught the girls many fun stretches. The students squealed as they twisted and turned their bodies into various positions. The music ended as the stretches came to a halt. The students rushed to their drink bottles to quench their thirst.  Girls giggled as the new dance moves were taught to them. The students were having a great time dancing with their peers. They continued to dance to a song called “Move your Body” by Beyonce. For the next 50 minutes, the girls of Killester College learnt to dance to “Move your Body” by Beyonce. Lolly pushed the girls and kept them dancing through the song. As the girls kept dancing, they appeared more and more fatigued. However, the girls were having a lot of fun as they laughed and danced with their friends.    Overall, the girls enjoyed their time with Lolly from Dance Mob.

Meruna Mayooran, Year 7, St Nea

Last week we were fortunate to have Dance Mob come to our school. They taught us some challenging dance routines while they were here. They started off with a warm up to some up lifting music. Once we finished the warm ups, they started to teach us a routine. We would learn the dance in small groups of steps and then start to go faster. Finally we would try it with the music. Dance Mob did a great job teaching us since they made sure everyone knew what to do and re-taught us if we were stuck. Even though sometimes we didn't get to finish the routine, we could all agree that the dance was awesome! Participating in Dance Mob was a fun and positive experience for me since I got to step out of my comfort zone. Hopefully they will come again soon!

Annabelle Kearns, Year 7 St Rafka

Last week we had Dance Mob and it was soooo much fun. It got you up and moving, it made you laugh and it wasn’t too hard but not too easy. The first week I did a hip hop song which I loved and the instructor really motivated the class.  Our moves were :we went down to the floor, to the side up and around and it was lots of fun. In the second week we did a cultural dance and it was very energetic and  very tiring. There was lots of teamwork involved in our dances and it made you laugh. I loved dance mob and can’t wait to do it again.

SCSA Competition at a Distance

The SCSA held two competitions over Term 2, one was for running/ participation, and the other was called "Show us your skills" where students had to film themselves completing a skill/trick shot of their choice.

There were no set rules or requirements for the "show us your skills" competition submissions just needed to be creative and skillful.

Submissions needed to be uploaded to the SCSA website.

Natasha Tran entered this competition and was selected as one of only five skill videos to receive a reward of all the SCSA schools. A fantastic effort Natasha! Click this link to view the sensation shot: Natasha's Trick Shot

The top 5 selected videos were:

NATASHA TRAN – KILLESTER COLLEGE (SHUTTLECOCK IN THE CUP)

CHANNEL ABAKI – OLSH (TRAMPOLINE)
