Principal's Report

Welcome to the second last newsletter for Term 3.  Interim reports were published last week and are available on Compass.  A reminder that Parent Teacher Interviews are being held on Thursday 13th September so it is a good opportunity to meet teachers and discuss your child’s progress.

College Council

Our School Council meeting was held last week on Monday evening.  In terms of finances the following things were approved:

  • An upgrade of the Library Heating/Cooling system.
  • The purchase of 8 new printers.
  • A new back-up device to ensure we have all our ICT information backed up securely and safely.

As part of my report, I presented members with an account of a meeting held with Ben Carroll, representatives from the Minister of Education James Merlino’s office and Chris Keating, who is the CEO of the Victorian School’s Building Authority (VSBA).  The meeting was held at Ben’s office in Parliament House and Arthur Soumalias, Judith Wright and myself attended. Two main issues discussed:

  • In 2017 the VSBA introduced a new round of School Maintenance Audits and every school was to be audited over a five year period.  Unfortunately our audit is going to be held in 2022 and given that our last audit was carried out in 2012 it will mean a 10 year period between audits.  We believe this is not good enough and have urged an audit in 2019.
  • Our building program to date has relied on our ability to make savings every year, however we are finding it more difficult to continue to do this and we will not be able to afford any major building projects in the future.  Hence we have asked for support with an allocation of funds to build and new Technology building followed by a Performing Arts Centre.

We were very pleased with the reception and positivity we received at the meeting.  Rosehill is on DET’s radar and they are aware of our needs.  Of course, a great deal will depend on the results of the November election.

Student Resource Package

In September every year DET releases to schools a funding allocation for the following year.  This funding is based on the Socio Economic and Educational background of our parents.  During the last week of this term we will find out our 2019 allocation.  We are hopeful of at least maintaining similar funds to this year, but this is not guaranteed.

Deb Ball

The annual Debutante Ball is being held on Friday, 14th September.  This is a very well attended event and one that I look forward to every year. A letter will be published on Compass with some rules and regulations outlined.  Please take the time to read it if you have students attending the ball.
