NAPLAN

The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) assesses literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life.  Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in reading, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

Parents who have students in Years 3 and 5 will be receiving additional information with more detail.

This year, Weeden Heights PS will be sitting the NAPLAN assessments online (with the exception of Year 3 writing).  Students are assessed on the same literacy and numeracy curriculum content, regardless of whether they complete the test online or on paper.

The NAPLAN Online assessment will starts on Tuesday 14th May and finishes on Friday 24th May 2019.  Please see below for the schedule that Weeden Heights PS will administer.  This will allow for some time if any students are away of the day of the scheduled assessment as well as completing the assessments before the grade 5 students go on camp.

Numeracy Information Session on Open Night

There may be nothing as certain as a number, but the way children are taught to handle them has changed since we were in school. Your child might be coming home with an array of new strategies in their homework books and terms in their brains to help them tackle their Maths homework, and as a parent, you might sometimes find this new and perplexing.

As part of our Open Night celebrations, we have organised an information session for you on Tuesday, 7th May 2019, from 6:30-7:00 pm in the Library. The various Mathematics  approaches and strategies that students are exposed to at Weeden Heights will be explained and presented. This session will also provide you with tips and ideas to help your child consolidate their learning at home.

We look forward to having you there!
