Teaching and Learning

This week we had the first day of our school review process. It was a very long and rewarding day which included the review panel members spending time in our classrooms watching our teachers teach and speaking to our students about what they were learning and how they felt at Concord School. The highlight of the day for me was the feedback from the review panel members on the high quality teaching they observed and the ability of our students to articulate what they were learning, how they were doing it and how they could seek support if they needed it. Our students were able to describe the processes of their learning, identify the focus of the session and confidently communicate with adults in their classroom who they had never met before. It was a great start to a process which will assist the school in setting our strategic direction for teaching and learning in the coming years.

Confident and Happy Students

Last week I had the good fortune of attending one of the Secondary 9/10 surf camps at Anglesea. I always love attending camp and spending time with students in a different environment. Inevitably you are able to develop relationships with students that the nature of the normal school day does not allow. It was wonderful seeing our students stepping out of their comfort zone, supporting each other and having a go at things like the Vertical Challenge and surfing in the ocean, activities which they would not do in a normal school day. The behaviour of our students for the entire camp was outstanding.

Over the long weekend encourage your child to read or visit the local library.

Supporting Numeracy at home

Look at the calendar together and work out how many school days there are left for 2019
