Important SSV events update - Regarding coronavirus

The Department of Education and Training (DET) is continuing to monitor and act on the advice of the Victorian Chief Health Officer and the Department of Health and Human Services about the ongoing situation related to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

The latest advice is that:

All excursions outside the school for purposes such as visits to cultural institutions, art galleries, theatres and sporting events or facilities (other than those local facilities regularly used by the school) planned from and including Tuesday 17 March must also be postponed or cancelled. Like camps, if excursions planned for Monday 16 March can be cancelled, it is recommended that you do so.

School sport is considered an excursion, which means that:

  • Any inter-school sporting events and competitions to be run today, Monday 16 March, will be postponed until further notice, where possible.
  • All inter-school sporting events and competitions from Tuesday 17 March will be postponed immediately until further notice.

These measures are intended to protect the health of our students and the broader community.

Interschool sport

School Sport Victoria has already postponed a number of school sport events planned for the remainder of Term 1.

We recognise the hard work from teachers and students in preparing to participate in these events. We also recognise the incredible work of our committed School Sport Victoria Coordinators and sporting partners in organising and running events.

We are all working together to ensure the safety of students and all others involved in school sport, and ask for your patience and consideration at this time.

School Sport Victoria will be reviewing the inter-school sport program over the coming weeks. At this stage we are unable to advise whether postponed events will be re-scheduled.

Please continue to keep updated through your school and by checking School Sport Victoria communication via our website (www.ssv.vic.edu.au), Facebook (School Sport Victoria) and Twitter (@SchoolSportVic).

Team Vic

Team Vic events including selection trials and training will be cancelled. This also means that Team Vic teams will not be competing in School Sport Australia Championships.

Reducing your risk

Good hygiene practices are the most effective means of minimising the spread of COVID-19, and schools and parents should continue to encourage these practices. This information is on the Department of Health and Human Services website - Ten ways to reduce your risk of coronavirus.
