Student Wellbeing
Camps
Staff at Concord School consider school camps as a very important part of the curriculum. We offer a varied program from prep to year 12.
The camping program is an integral part of the school program and provides a focus for many of the curriculum areas of the school. The benefits of school camps are numerous, in particular Concord School camps enhance:
• the development of social skills
A Concord School camp is a great opportunity to develop a range of social skills. Most activities at camp involve team work, which is great to strengthen established friendships. This is particularly important at Concord School where students have fewer opportunities to meet with friends outside of school hours.
• The development of independence skills
For many children school camp is their first time away from family and home for a few nights. This is a great opportunity for students to grow up by learning how take care of themselves and to do things on their own. Most students rise to the challenge and learn to rely on themselves when they spend time away home.
• The development of decision-making skills
Concord School staff are not able to hover over each child all the time, so at camp, students are responsible for making many of their own choices. Safety is at all times our priority.
• Environmental awareness
During camp, students become more aware of the environment, develop outdoor skills and appreciation for nature.
• The learning of new skills
At school camp, our students will be exposed to a range of activities that they may not have tried before. When away from their parents/carers, children are often more adventurous and willing to try new things.
