The community of Melbourne Girls' College celebrates its foundation in this record of its first important year.

It has been a year of change, with a new location, new environment and many new faces as girls and staff from Malvern and Richmond joined with girls and staff from other schools to begin Melbourne Girls' College.

It is sometimes difficult to recall our first days and weeks but vivid in our memories of the time must be the boxes that lined the corridors which progressively made their way to their new homes in our light and freshly prepared building. The change in our surroundings has continued all year; a new canteen, a refurbished and computerised library, carpet in all classrooms, improved grounds and carpark and most recently new grass planting and a landscape which will complement our unique Yarraside setting.

Our technology wing and programs came into focus and will increase next year when further work is begun during the summer break.

The range of activities and achievements documented in the snapshot of our first year reflect the creativity, energy, enthusiasm and talent of our school. It tells of the endeavor, success and participation of students of every age and across academic, citizenship, creative, sport and leadership fields.

The fine reputation of Melbourne Girls' College in its foundation year is the result of purpose, pride and integrity, the strong partnership of students, staff and families and the vision of the future of this newest school for girls in Victoria.

Our experience of change has not only been location, environment and community. It has focused on curriculum, learning experienc and prepartion for girls to face a rapidly changing society, with skills, adaptability for change and confidence, to take leadership roles in the future that is theirs.

I wish all of us, of the foundation year of Melbourne Girls' College, a fulfilling, challenging and celebrating future.
