Casey Tech School Design Sprint

The Casey Tech School Design Sprint was held at the Jean Russell Centre at The Nossal High School in Berwick earlier this year. It was a single, full day, intensive ideation and prototyping workshop. The Sprint aimed to be dynamic, fast-paced, collaborative and contribute to the physical design of this new facility.

Three of our students participated in this workshop and contributed to the design brief of the soon to be built Casey Tech School.  Eirrah Bautista, David Le and Bailey Slater contributed to the Casey Tech School Design Sprint.  They did an amazing job.

The problem participants worked with was:

Current approaches to teaching and learning in Casey may not be equipping students with the skills and attributes they need to succeed in the 21st Century workforce.

Students were asked to contribute their ideas in relation to this problem.

Fifty students and 16 teachers participated in the Design Sprint from 11 schools (government and nongovernment) across Casey. This group was joined by 15 thought leaders and industry representatives from the Bio-medical, Health and Medical Technology and High Tech Manufacturing, Production and Processing Technologies industries.

It is scheduled to be up and running before November, 2018.  It is anticipated that all of our students will engage with the programs delivered at this new and ground breaking facility.

Success at 2018 Course Counselling Events

It was wonderful to meet with so many of our families as students went through the important course selection process during the first two weeks of term 3.  The majority of our students have now completed the course application process after meeting with one of our course counsellors.

Most students had completed their Career Action Plan’s and this ensured that the discussions at course counselling were informed and purposeful.

We would also like to thank the many, many parents who attended the Senior School Information Evening and collected their own paper copy of the appropriate course counselling materials.  The theatre was full.  It is important that we all work together. These events are a way of making sure every student is able to make an informed choice.

I would like to thank the course counselling team who worked alongside our families to ensure that all options were considered by each of our students.  I would like to thank the following course counsellors for their professionalism and dedication to ensuring the best outcomes for our students: Mr Rick Taig, Mr Paul Evans, Ms Lory Arslanian, Ms Sonja Burnham, Mrs Kathie Jacobs, Mrs Carren Brennan, Mrs Melinda Campbell, Mr Martin Cash, Mrs Catherine Gilchriest, Mrs Sheila Downey, Mrs Susan Bergman, Mrs Lynlee Coutts, Mr Brad Gauci, Mr Tim Bray, Mr Scott Jones, Ms Teresa Hayes, Mr Ross Huggard, Mr Ray Holdsworth, Mrs Kim Keher and Mr Brian Yong.

Important information for students who are yet to submit a

Senior School 2018 course application

The members of the Careers Team have been catching-up with students who did not attend their course counselling appointment.  Unfortunately, we cannot organise more course counselling sessions and students who did not attend course counselling have been supported by a careers team member to complete a course application form for 2018.  Please ask your son/daughter for this form as we have asked each student to take home the form, discuss it and bring it back to the careers office signed by a parent/carer (the careers office is in V block - next to Study Hall).

If your son/daughter does not bring the course selection form back, we will enter the course he/she has selected without alteration.

It is vitally important that all students complete the course selection process.  If we are unable to meet with your son/daughter (eg. school absence) we will enter a course on their behalf and mail a copy of this information to each family.  This is not our preferred option

but we want to ensure that your son/daughter retains their place at Cranbourne Secondary School in 2018.

It is a legal requirement that all students who are under 17 remain at school unless they have applied for and gained an exemption from the Department of Education.  Exemptions are not granted automatically and require applicants to be engaged in a recognised educational program (eg. TAFE) and/or be employed for a specified number of hours per week in an appropriate workplace.**

We would also request that if your son/daughter is moving to a different school in 2018 that you let us know as soon as possible.

We will presume that students who are 17 or over and who have not submitted a course application form will be exiting from school unless otherwise informed.  Again, it is vital that all families ensure that they have completed the course selection process for 2018 to ensure that each student accesses the most appropriate senior school program for them.

**Conditions apply and it is important that any student seeking an alternative to our school meet with Mrs Kathie Jacobs to discuss their options, complete the appropriate transition from school application and comply with government regulations.
