Strings Workshop

The wonderful String players from Castlemaine Secondary College and the esteemed Melbourne-based Fidelio Quartet presented an afternoon of fine music-making on Sunday 8th September in the gorgeous Garden room at BUDA. The day began with individual student master-class sessions followed by a String Orchestra workshop with Lisa Grosman, Head of Strings Camberwell Grammar School. This is the third year we have worked with Lisa and she didn’t fail to inspire us all again with her humorous and insightful tips and inspirations on String technique as well as what could be interpreted as a way of approaching life! With enthusiasm, sensitivity and awareness.

In the afternoon CSC String Orchestra presented a dazzling concert. Works included Elgar's Chanson de Matin with Eva De Maria O’Sullivan as soloist, music from the film score "Chocolat", a rollicking Cossack Dance by Kraemer and Kraemer and a luscious rendition of the Russian folk classic "Dark Eyes". We were lucky to have The Fidelio Quartet then perform works by Beethoven for us, which they will perform again later this month at The Melbourne Recital Centre. The audience including students, parents and members of the Castlemaine community were mesmerised by the String Quartets’ superb playing, which was accompanied with sensitivity by the incoming rain and wind against a lively garden vista.

A huge thankyou to our parent helpers Patricea, Katrina, Debon and Rose

We are looking forward to seeing Lisa Grosman again on Tuesday 17th at CSC for further individual master-class sessions with a number of our string students.
