2020 National Youth Science Forum

Congratulations to Year 11 student Palmira DeMaria O’Sullivan who was one of 600 young people selected to participate in the 2020 National Youth Science Forum.  She will head to Brisbane in January to explore a wide range of Sciences over 12 days with other like-minded people.  As part of the forum she will participate in site tours, workshops, hear from speakers and learn more about career and study pathways.

Special thanks to the Rotary Club of Castlemaine who have sponsored Palmira in this endeavour.  She was accompanied by Castlemaine Rotary's Youth Director, Kerry Anderson, and Castlemaine Secondary College science teacher, Sharon Rossiter at an information day held in Melbourne for District 9800.

While Palmira is currently most interested in zoology, marine biology, and environmental science, she is keeping an open mind. ‘This experience is going to help prepare me for Year 12 and to better understand what career options open to me in the sciences.’

‘All my teachers are so incredibly supportive and knowledgeable, Palmira says. ‘What we really need is for more girls to take on STEM subjects.’

Well done Palmira!
