Principal News

As we start term 4, I would to thank our school community for their support in term 3 which was a particularly busy term. As you are aware, our building project is now well under way, and most of our old buildings have been demolished. This term will be exciting to see our fabulous new buildings start to take shape.

Our four-yearly DET School Review has also recently concluded. I thank our staff, students, parents and School Council for providing input into our Pre-Review Self Evaluation (PRSE). This detailed PRSE document provided valuable information for the Reviewer. On the final day of the Review, the Review Panel established Strategic Goals for our school over the next four years. These goals will form the basis of our next Strategic Plan and will be shared with staff and the broader school community early next term.

It is also at that this time of the year that we start detailed planning for the year ahead. This includes the development of the timetable and associated decisions about staffing. The first step in establishing our staffing needs for 2020 has been the advertisement of four key leadership positions in the College. I am pleased to announce the following appointments to these leadership positions:

  • Learning Specialist (Literacy) – Stephen Samuel
  • Learning Specialist (Numeracy) – Sharon Rossiter
  • Leading Teacher (Student Voice and Agency) – Judith McLean
  • Leading Teacher (Pathways and Transitions) – Kate Young

As you may be aware, the 2020 NAPLAN results were recently released. There were some pleasing improvements for CSC students, particularly in the area of “NAPLAN growth.” This is a key measure because it allows us to look at how much improvement our students have made between Years 7 and 9. The percentage of CSC students achieving “High Growth” over the past year has improved in all of the literacy domains and is well above the state average for Reading, Writing and Spelling. In the numeracy area we have continued to reduce the percentage of our students achieving “Low Growth.” These results reflect well upon the efforts of our students and teachers.

XUNO application and student attendance

As most families would be aware CSC uses the XUNO platform for student management, which includes attendance, storing of reports and ILPs (individual learning plans) and many other teacher functions. During term 3, XUNO released a new parent mobile application, which is very user friendly, particularly with monitoring student attendance. Currently parents / cares receive an SMS when their child / children are absent from school. This process incurs significant cost for the College, which we hope to reduce significantly. During this term we will start conducting trials using the XUNO application for monitoring attendance. If the term 4 trial is successful, in 2020 we hope to replace our current SMS system with all a families using the XUNO application. Families are encouraged to download the application now from the App Store. The login details for each family will remain the same, with the school code being 6dv79a. If you require any assistance please contact the College.

Child Safe Standards

All families are kindly reminded that we have copies of the below listed policies on our College’s website.

  • Child Safe Policy
  • Child Safety Responding and Reporting Policy and Procedures
  • Code of Conduct – Child Safety
  • Staff Selection
  • Duty of Care
  • Student Wellbeing and engagement
  • Bullying prevention

Any questions related to above policies should be directed to Paul Frye or myself.

Students accessing nearby golf course

During term 3 the school received numerous phone calls from members of the nearby Golf Course in relation to students damaging the greens, stealing and breaking the golf flags. More damage occurred again on the first day of term 4, with several CSC students being sighted on the golf course during school hours. As a result any CSC student found on the golf course during school hours will be issued with a one day suspension. This is effective from Tuesday 8th October.

Uniform

Once again we have reviewed the process for following up students who fail to comply with our uniform policy and process. For many students completing an after-school detention was logistically difficult, therefore we want to streamline our process. From Monday 28th October for every 3 uniform infringements a student receives they will be required to complete a lunchtime yard duty detention. Families are reminded if they require financial assistance for the purchasing of uniform they should contact the College’s Administration or Wellbeing Teams.
