Foundation (Prep)

Literacy
Oral language lays the foundation for reading and writing skills. This term students have been concentrating on thinking before they write. The children are encouraged to think about topics they would like to write about and then communicate those ideas to a partner. After our quick 'turn and talk' activity, students are more positive about approaching their writing because they know what they want to say.
Yesterday a letter came home asking for assistance with collecting pictures/photos of topics which interest your child. We will be pasting these into a Writer's Notebook next week and it will become a resource for days when children are having trouble coming up with an idea for writing. Thank you advance for your assistance with this.
Show and tell has been another popular way to encourage communicating with others. The children are enjoying the freedom to pick and choose a day that suits them to share something special with their classmates.
Numeracy
The children have continued to practise writing digits using the correct formation, making and reading numbers to 20 and were also introduced to tally marks. We had a fun lesson surveying the class and keeping tally of our classmates responses.
Buddies
During Term 1 students have had opportunities to meet with their buddies and get to know each other. We have made hot air balloons together and this week the children enjoyed a guided drawing activity using Kids Art Hub on the iPads.
I hope you enjoy the weekend!
