Principal's Report

Phoenix SOAR

I was invited to present yesterday at a Principal's Conference about our experience with the Phoenix Soar Program. It was a fantastic experience - I met some Phoenix players and was able to express how important this program has been for our year 5 and 6 students.

The 4 week health and well being program was a combination of theory and practice combining classroom and on court learning delivered by South East Melbourne Phoenix. Students heard from Phoenix professional athletes via engaging digital content, participation in discussions, completing their own Phoenix Soar handbook and participating in drills and clinics using their learnings in real world scenarios. Through the program students learn to recognise, regulate and articulate their emotions.

LOCAL EXCURSION Grade 1 and 2

Our Grade 1 and 2s invited me to join them on their walking excursion around Warrandyte today.

Off we went... we walked along Yarra St to the Warrandyte Community Garden and met Judy and Anne and Bernadette- the lovely vounteers who showed us around the Community Garden and then we all did a Scavenger hunt and found some great vegetables and flowers and even an indigenous garden.

I

In small groups we were escorted into the Police Station, we tried on the hats, we tried out the cell - (didn't like it) and we sat in the interview room. Then Stewart took us outside to meet Marley and to hear and see the Police car with the lights and sirens on!

We met Marley- so so cute...

Then we walked along the river towards the Bakery and the playground.

We had delicious party pies and hot cross buns from the Bakery and a fabulous play on the playground.

I had to leave everyone there and come back to school but the Grade 1 and 2 students and teachers were headed to the Library!

A fantastic day - thanks Ms Buzzini, Mrs Dibb, Ms Dowel, Elissa and all our parent helpers!

I think everyone will be tired but glad they saw so much of our Warrandyte!

STAFF NEWS:

3/4J

I spoke with Stuart this week and his recovery is progressing. We thank Angela Davidson for doing such a great job in the class this term.

We are very fortunate to announce that Chelsea Black will teach in 3/4 J next term. As you may be aware Chelsea has been teaching in 3/4Z this term while Linda Zanatta was on long service leave.

A GREAT STORY:

A prospective parent came to our Prep Information Night and commented on arrival that a student with our logo had helped get her dog when it had escaped - the boy stopped on his bike and collected the dog and returned it as he was worried the dog would follow him and his friends to the river.

The parent said "I saw the school logo and thought - that's where I want my child to go to school!"

We have since found out that it was MYLES O'KEEFFE - well done Myles - so good!

Remember: school finishes at 2.30 next Thursday for EASTER.

Enjoy your weekend.
