What's happening at Newlands

Acting Principal appointment

Today would like to inform the school community of the successful appointment of Luke Cripps to the acting principal role for terms two & three. Luke’s appointment resulted from an open selection process overseen by a representative of the Northern Region of the Department of Education. I congratulate Luke on being successfully appointed to this position for the following two terms. The role of the principal is a complex role that is both rewarding and challenging, a role I believe Luke is well equipped to fulfil for the school, the students, and the Newlands community more broadly.

I will be visiting Europe and spending time with family. Something my wife and I have not had the opportunity to do due to the Covid pandemic over the past years.

NAPLAN

Naplan has now been completed by our Years 3 & 5. We expect the individual students’ reports to be available near the end of term two.

Construction work

I can report to the community that the construction of our new school is on schedule. We can now see what the ‘Learning worlds’ look like. We now have a sense of size and shape. We have arranged with the Alchemy team for the kids to observe the cranes in operation, lifting steel beams into place. This will all be done outside of the fence under the supervision of classroom teachers and Alchemy staff.

Staff Carpark

Today I must report to parents that our teacher’s cars have been damaged by students throwing dirt and stones over the fence onto staff vehicles. I spoke to the whole school at a special assembly yesterday at recess time. I’m very disappointed that some children were so thoughtless. We ask that parents and caregivers reinforce our school values at home and support the school values.

Reminders

As can be seen, this newsletter shows many reminders and activities happening as we close this term; please make time to view the school calendar.
