SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION

The sacrament of Penance, also known as ‘Confession’ and ‘Reconciliation’, is one of the seven sacraments recognised by the Catholic Church. This sacrament specifically continues Jesus’ ministry of healing and forgiveness of sin (Resource 2009).

It celebrates the endlessly forgiving mercy of God and the change of heart of all those who turn back to God after sin. It celebrates too all the efforts at reconciliation inspired by God’s grace in which we are engaged throughout our lives with family, friends, and others.

The Rites of Reconciliation

There are three different ways we can take part in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

First Rite: Reconciliation of an individual penitent

Second Rite: Reconciliation of several penitents with individual confession and  absolution

Third Rite:Reconciliation of penitents with general confession and absolution.

In the tradition of Holy Name Parish, our students make their First Reconciliation under the Second Rite.

Congratulations to 22 of our students who received their First Reconciliation on Wednesday 1st March. Special thanks to the support of the students' parents and families and thank you to their teachers Mrs Monteleone, Ms Baldwin and Ms Lowry for all the teaching and preparation.
