Harmony Day

Well done to the student leaders who presented an insightful presentation for the College’s assembly to celebrate Harmony Day last week. A particular highlight was the performance celebrating culture and dance from Samoa.

Autumn Concert

Congratulations to the College’s intermediate and first ensembles who performed in our annual Autumn Concert. The concert was one of many highlights including a guest performance by 2022 Old Boy group “The Vanderbyl Quartet”. Semester 1 Performances

In 2023, Marist College Ashgrove commences a new era with the integration of Co-curricular Arts Performances across multiple platforms. We look forward to a range of projects across the Arts space with physical and digital performances throughout Brisbane, Southern Queensland, and the world.

 

Thursday 23 March, Year 5 Musical

Times: Session 1 – 5:00pm, Session 2 – 6:00pm | Draney Theatre

Join the Year 5 cohort of 2023 for their musical production of ‘Joust’. Imagine a world where all weapons were replaced by musical instruments! Welcome to the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table like you've never seen it or heard it before. On guard! This 35-minute medieval marvel, complete with jousting knights, delightful damsels, and court jesters, is an event not to be missed.

Thursday 30 March, Combined Choral Concert – Pemulwuy Prelude Concert 3

Celebrating male singing across South-East Queensland, Pemulwuy Prelude anticipates the National Male Voice Festival held in July. Featuring several external choir groups joined by our very own Marist Choirs.

Tuesday 2 May, International Jazz Day Celebration

In November 2011, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization officially designated April 30 as International Jazz Day to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe. Please join us on May 2 for a special performance from Big Band 1 to mark this important day for international jazz.

Wind Orchestras 1 and 2, Wind Ensemble and Percussion Ensembles 1, 2 and 3 will feature in this performance utilizing the wonderful technical facilities of the Draney Theatre. This concert will showcase a diverse program of musical genres.

This year Performance Choir and Marist Voices will be performing in the Queensland Youth Music Awards. QYMA is one of the state's longest-running school music competitions which celebrates the participation of over 4,000 young people in the music-making process. The contest provides an environment to motivate young students to develop their skills and raise their artistic levels.

 

Tuesday 16 May – Friday 19 May, Big Band Youth Festival – Hosted by Brisbane Jazz Club

Tuesday May 16 – 9:15pm - 9:40pm -Brisbane Ethnic and Multicultural Arts Centre (BEMAC)

Hidden beneath the spans of the Story Bridge, Brisbane Jazz Club has been fostering live jazz in Brisbane since 1972. During May, they will be hosting their annual Brisbane Youth Jazz Festival at BEMAC, Queensland Multicultural Centre; which will see a multitude of Big Band ensembles performing across four days - including Marist College Ashgrove’s very own Big Band 1. A booking link will be communicated via the College App and Newsletter closer to the date.

 

The Tower Art Show 2022 hosted by Marist College Ashgrove

Now in its 7th year, the Tower Art Show has quickly established a reputation for excellence within the local art community. The annual show features prominent and up and coming local artists, attracting exhibitors from all over Queensland. It also promotes the extraordinary artistic talent of our students and encourages the pupils of Marist College Ashgrove to showcase their art through visual art and music. The three-day exhibition launches with an Opening Night on the evening of Friday 19 June and is open to the public for the viewing and purchasing of high-quality artwork across the weekend of Saturday 20 May and Sunday 21 May.

 

Sunday 21 May, Battle of the Bands

10:00am | John Eales Grandstand

Come and experience the College’s finest rock bands battle it out for musical domination. The competition begins on McMahon Oval after the completion of the Walkathon. This event has launched the careers of multiple Aria award-winning and nominated artists. Who will reign supreme in the Battle of the Bands Stadium for 2023?

Featuring performances from all our Marist College Big Bands, as well as a special guest artist. Be a part of this magical evening of jazz with an eclectic program of jazz standards.

These intimate concerts will give our piano, guitar, brass, woodwind, string, percussion, and vocal students an opportunity to share their solo recital skills in a relaxed and supportive environment. Admission: Free

 

Thursday 1 June, Cathedral Concert– Brisbane City

6:30pm | Cathedral of St Stephen

Featuring the College’s string and choral groups, St Stephen’s Cathedral is a venue that provides the perfect acoustics for this genre. Providing an opportunity to perform in the spiritual heart of the city, we invite you to enjoy performances by Marist Voices, Chamber Choir, Performance Choir, Chamber Strings, Senior Strings, and String Ensemble.

Returning after its success in 2022, the Marist College Ashgrove Guitar Summit will provide an opportunity for all of the College’s Guitar Ensembles to experience a combination of workshops and sectionals under the guidance of a guest director, concluding with an early evening concert.

Wednesday 14 June, DRAMA PERFORMANCE ‘Murder on the Menu’

7:00pm | Draney Theatre

Artemis Ward, the proud owner of Ward Books, is murdered in his favourite restaurant while waiting for a mysterious dinner guest who never arrives. Everyone’s a suspect – his own son and daughter, his nephew, the restaurant owner, and many others who crawl out of the woodwork. Can the conveniently-placed coroner and his reporter friend solve the crime without the aid of police? Why does the list of suspects just keep growing? All members of the Marist Community are invited to the Theatre Ash production of “Murder on the Menu” by Bill Hand. You might even win a prize for guessing “whodunnit”. Ticket details will be available closer to the performance date via the College Newsletter and Moodle.
