Boarding News

Mr Jim Noble, Assistant Head of College - Boarding

Dear Boarding Parents

We were very proud to host the South East Queensland Boarders Touch Football Tournament at Marist College Ashgrove on Sunday. This event which we started last year has grown considerably and has become a significant logistical exercise.

This event brought together boarding students from 20 schools in South East Queensland which is around 85% of all boarding schools in this region. An impressive 73 teams played in this tournament, with divisions for boys and girls across all age groups. With some schools bringing additional spectators, we believe that more than 1,000 boarders were on campus on Sunday. It was lovely to see many of the kids catching up with friends from home who attend other schools. It was also great to see competitive touch football being played, but also a healthy perspective that everyone was there to have fun. It was a great spectacle and very much a celebration of boarding in this region.

The SEQ Boarders Touch Football Tournament would not have been possible without the dedicated effort of many staff, students and volunteers. I am very grateful for this support and the day was an overwhelming success. Special thanks to Blair Whitlock, our Boarding Recreation Officer who put in an enormous effort to plan and coordinate this event. We look forward to hosting the SEQ Boarders Touch Football Tournament for many years to come.

Most of our boys are in a very busy academic period with exams and assignments being completed this week and next. We have been encouraging boys to use their free time wisely to complete additional study and the boys have also been reminded to make good use of the boarding tutors at this time. Please check in with your son to see how he is progressing with his assessments and let the boarding staff know if we can assist in any way.

A reminder with the end of term approaching that boarders are able to leave some possessions in their cupboard over the holidays providing it is locked. Parents are reminded to upload details of their son’s end of term departure on the REACH system. And don’t forget the end of term bus service being provided by the College travelling to Plainlands, Toowoomba, Dalby, Moonie and Goondiwindi. Please book via this link. I know our boarders are looking forward to some time away with family and friends over the Easter holidays and I hope all can recharge after a very busy Term 1.

Finally, I’d like to extend the thoughts and best wishes of our boarding community to the people of North West Queensland, and particularly any of our boarding families who have experienced terrible flooding recently.
