Term 1 Examinations

Term 1 Exam Block has begun for Years 8, 9, 10 and 12 students. The schedule for each year level has been released to students, along with room allocations. Students who receive special provisions (extra time, CLE for exams), have also been emailed room allocations. Make-up exams will be scheduled for Friday 24 March, and throughout Week Ten. A reminder that if students are absent for an exam, a parent note is required for students in Years 7-9 and a medical certificate submitted for Years 10-12. Year 11 and 12 medical certificates must list the specific illness and not just state “medical condition”.

Elevate student sessions – Follow-up and Resources

Over the coming weeks, the school will emphasize the learning that our boys engaged with through the Elevate Education sessions. Students and Parents can also access these resources, and Elevate Education has provided us with the following:

Each student who heard from us has access to our student portal at www.elevateeducation.com where they can access a range of practice questions, presenter tips and a copy of Elevate’s study guide The Science of Student Success. When students arrive at the Portal, a pop-up will prompt them to enter a password. The password rondo grants students access to all premium resources. Students can also create a profile on the website, allowing them to tailor their experience and save their preferences.

Experts in the field of mental health and nutrition will be presenting on the night.

Marist Father-Son Reading Night

It is widely known that reading to your child from an early age helps them become and stay interested in reading throughout their life.  Research also shows that children who enjoy reading tend to do better in school and have more employment opportunities as adults.   It is also known that children become interested in reading by watching and copying their parents.

The national assessment program shows that boys are three to five times more likely than girls to have a reading or learning disability.  Experts agree that when it comes to engaging boys with books, the key is reading with dads, uncles, and grandfathers.

Next term, we will be holding our first Father-Son reading night at MCA. This night is open to all our Year 7 and 8 fathers/grandfathers/uncles/significant males and their sons. More information will be provided in the coming weeks so please keep an eye on your emails and social media for updates.

Illness

If a student has tested positive for COVID-19, Queensland Health recommends that they isolate until they have been fever-free for 24 hours, register positive RAT results and wear a face mask for 7 days after receiving a positive COVID-19 test result. Students who are absent from school should contact their Head of House and class teachers and access work on Moodle. It is important that any student requesting an extension on assignments due to illness have at a minimum, a letter from their parents (Years 5-9) or the registration of RAT results with Queensland Health or a medical certificate (Years 10-12).
