Students make us proud at debutante balls

It was my pleasure to attend two of the St Mel's debutante balls, on Saturday, March 18 and Friday, March 24. Congratulations to Year 11 students Megan Okely, Izzy Henry, Tayla Robertson, Millie Williams, Courtney Miller, Brooke Linnett, Ava Rosella, Tayla Maidment, Millie Bamford, Chiara Villani, Charli Guppy, Lila Guthrie, Issy Ferrari, Madison Cox, Belinda Eddy, Ella Daldy and former student Madi Smith for making your debut. I would also like to recognise Taigue Mitchell, Lee McCrindle, Tanis Espagne, Alex Hay, Lucas Young, Antonio Mercuri, Caleb Cox, Thomas Rachele, Xander Raymer, Jed Cassidy, Charlie Martinek, Makai Stanton, Bailey Stevens, Lachlan Tremellen, Jesse Minicozzi and former students Riley Okely and Andre Renato for being wonderful partners. The many hours of dance practice paid off and you made all of your families, and the staff in attendance, very proud.

Assessments - Important to check PAM

As students continue to work through learning units, please be mindful of staying connected via PAM. Students have assessment tasks due in the coming weeks and families can play an important role in helping students to manage competing demands on their time. It is important that you regularly check PAM for assessment task dates and feedback on your child's progress. A reminder that your child's Pastoral Group Leader is your first port of call for any queries - academic and wellbeing.

Learning conversations

I will be sending out communication soon about the booking arrangements for learning conversations in Week 10. This information will be emailed to families and will be available on PAM early next week. Students are expected to attend learning conversations with their parent(s) or caregiver as student input is a vital part of these conversations.

Mi piace studiare l'italiano

School of Possibilities Italian Learning Mentor Christian Steri asked his Year 11 students why they chose to study Italian as a VCE subject this year. Christian has been teaching Italian to these students since they began at St Anne's College in Year 7 and is proud of their approach to their Italian studies. Bravissimi!

Chiara Villani

I chose to study VCE Italian as I have an interest in my heritage and want to be able to further develop my knowledge in how to speak the language.

Dante Mori

I chose to study Italian this year because I would like to live there one day and speak the language.

Ava Harrington

I chose Italian as a VCE subject because I have an Italian background, and have been learning the language since primary school, which is why I chose Italian as one of my subjects.

Ava Rosella

I chose to study Italian in Year 11 as I want to learn more about my heritage.

Charli Guppy

I am studying Italian this year because I want to learn new things about different cultures.

Exciting opportunity for SOP students

We have an exciting excursion opportunity coming up for anyone from Year 10 or 11 who is interested in the Medicine/Health/Nursing/Paramedicine/Allied Health industry as a career pathway. During the excursion students get the opportunity to explore nursing as a career and experience life as a Nursing student, presented by current Nursing students and La Trobe University Shepparton staff.

The session includes information on the different ways to become a nurse, including the difference between Enrolled and Registered Nurse,  career options, Graduate year, Uni life, entry requirements, pathway options, fees and financial assistance, and suggested subjects to study in Years 11/12.

The highlight of the day is an engaging hands-on session in the Clinical Learning Unit working with the mannequins in a simulated hospital environment, led by the Nursing academics teaching the course. Although the session is focused on Nursing, it is also highly valuable for those who may be interested in related fields such as Paramedicine or Medicine, or for the students who may be a bit unsure. Students will be given time to research their own potential study area and plan ahead.

Places are limited (we only have 15 more places available) so interested students please let Careers Practitioner Belinda Gleeson know ASAP via email: bgleeson@sackialla.catholic.edu.au
