From the Principal

Benvenuto - Welcome

Harmony Day

Our Harmony Day celebrations on Tuesday were a wonderful expression of the diversity of culture in our community. It was great to see so many people dressing in clothing which represented their cultural backgrounds. The Harmony Day committee consisting of staff and students, led by Deputy Principal Community Wellbeing, Kate McGrath, did such an incredible job of preparing a fun-filled day for students to enjoy, whilst learning about respect, inclusion and diversity. For further coverage of the college's Harmony Day celebrations, please see the 'Harmony Day' page in this edition of il giornale.

Debutantes

Over the last two weeks, many of our Year 11 students took part in the St Mel’s Parish debutante balls. It was the culmination of months of preparation and practice. The students looked beautiful and their dancing skills were impressive. It is always such a joy to see young people taking on new challenges and being their best. Congratulations to all the participants. Please head to the 'Learning Updates - School of Possibilities' page for more photos from the debutante balls.

Sacraments

Next week our Sacramental candidates will continue their preparation towards the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. Each candidate has been preparing through the Steps in Faith program, participating in group reflections and learning times together, as well as opportunities to complete these reflections and learnings at home with their families. We continue to pray for our Sacramental candidates.

Learning conversations

Learning conversations will be held on Monday and Tuesday of Week 10 (April 3 and 4). There will soon be information sent to families on how to book a learning conversation through PAM. Families have the option of an onsite or online conversation. Students have been preparing for these conversations by reflecting on their experiences so far this term, identifying the strengths and challenges they have been experiencing.

Enrolment tours and open night

Friday was the first day of the annual enrolment tours for families wishing to enrol their children at St Anne’s. These tours are a wonderful opportunity to get a sense of what a day in the life of a student at St Anne’s looks like. We will also hold our annual Community Open Night on Wednesday, March 29, from 5:30pm-6:00pm. This is an opportunity for members of the community to come and have a look around the college as we continue to develop and grow. All community members are welcome.

NAPLAN completion

We have now completed NAPLAN online for 2023. The students from Years 3, 7 and 9 undertook tests in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (grammar and punctuation and spelling) and Numeracy. It was great to see students demonstrating the college expectations throughout the process.

Farewell to Mel and Jayne

After a period of leave, Mel Key will be resigning her position of Deputy Principal Learning and Teaching at St Anne’s College. Mel has expressed her thanks for the time spent as a member of our college community and is looking forward to the next chapter of her career and life, whatever that may be.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mel for her contribution, including the knowledge, wisdom and support shared with the college community during her time with us and wish her all the best with future endeavours.

Foundation Learning Mentor Jayne Hill has resigned from her teaching position due to personal circumstances. Jayne's last day with the children will be Thursday, April 6. We wish Jayne all the best with her future endeavours and thank her for her contribution to the college. Glenice Sefton will continue her role in the classroom one day per week and we will seek a suitably qualified candidate to take up the remaining four days. Parents/carers who have any questions regarding this, please don't hesitate to contact myself or School of Wonder Leader Megan Shiner.

We have begun the recruitment process to fill Mel and Jayne's positions.

Condolences

We extend our deepest sympathy to School of Possibilities Learning Mentor Troy Lowe, his daughter Eva (Foundation) and their family as they mourn the passing of Troy's step-father. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lowe family at this time of sorrow.
