SURREALISM, ART COMPETITIONS AND THE HEIDE ART GALLERY
The Term 2 Art Competition is currently running, and we have already received many student submissions which explore and experiment with the concept of Surrealism. The images you see here are a short selection of our favourites so far. The competition will be running until the end of the Term 2 holidays, and we can’t wait to see what else our McKinnon students have to offer!
In a funny coincidence, we are excited to mention that the Heide Gallery also has a Surrealist Competition running at the moment! However, Heide Gallery’s competition focuses solely on the artform of photography. We encourage all students to create their own surrealist photographs to not only potentially win the McKinnon Art Competition but also have your artwork featured on Heide’s Instagram.
Don't miss this opportunity to showcase your talent to the wider public, explore surrealism, and potentially win amazing prizes.
Check the Compass news feed for information on how to submit your artworks, and if you’re working in photography, we will also submit your work for Heide Gallery’s competition via the McKinnon Art Instagram account.
And remember, we want to see YOUR work. We are not accepting artwork made using AI generators.
GENRE-SWAPPING IN YEAR 11 MEDIA
As part of Unit 1, our Year 11 Media students have embarked on an exciting challenge: genre-swapping trailers for well-known movies, and posters, to engage with new audiences. This task not only tested our students' understanding of various Media codes and conventions but also encouraged them to think creatively about storytelling and audience perception.
The examples shown here demonstrate some of the outstanding work our students in Year 11 have created for this year. By carefully selecting and re-editing scenes, and altering musical compositions, they have brilliantly transformed well known favorites into something entirely new.
If you click on the links included in this article, you will be able to view some of the exceptional trailers our students have made.
Congrats to the Year 11 Media students, and their teacher Ms Portelli, whose guidance has played a crucial role in shaping their outstanding achievements.
