CAPTAIN'S CORNER

SENIOR CAPTAIN

Speculation was high at the start of the month, with talk of the long-awaited arrival of our Year 12 hoodies. We received an announcement over the speakers to come down to the Hall, and there they were! It was as if one more piece to the puzzle of Year 12 had finally been found!

Everyone was beyond ecstatic, with the Hall being flooded with students unboxing and scavenging amongst the empty boxes and plastic to find their hoodie, and a sea of grey exiting the room as we returned to the senior building, to where we could finally differentiate ourselves from the other year levels.

Term 2 so far has been fun yet challenging, and we’re halfway through. All the SACs and even the Years 10 and 11 exams are fast approaching if not already here, so I wish everyone luck and all the best for their assessments! And as a side note, well done to all my NHT classmates who have completed their final exams, after a long 18 months of hard work it’s finally over and I’m confident that everyone did amazingly.

I would also like to accentuate how pivotal it is to maintain a positive mindset for the rest of the term and the year. Keeping an optimistic outlook really is key. As I said before, Term 2 is almost over, so we all just need to continue our best efforts, and hopefully we all get to see our hard work being paid off!

JUNIOR CAPTAIN

Term 2 as usual, has proven to be exciting and eventful. At the East Campus, the Year 9s have now completed their two-week Job Skills program. This program provides students with beneficial courses, accreditations, and life skills which they can use on their resume and further develop as they progress into the future. The program consists of a 3-day hospitality course, Level 1 first aid course as well as a choice of the Bronze Medallion Certificate or karate workshop which also included an AFL umpiring course, positive education workshop and study skills.

Year 9 Camp was also a part of the job skills program where the students headed off to Warrnambool and spent 3 days engaging in fun, new experiences accompanied by talks and tours at Deakin University. This was all extremely enjoyable and will assist greatly in all our future endeavours.

We recently had our School Cross Country Carnival and those successful in achieving the Top 10 in their age group are going on to compete in the Kingston Division finals on Wednesday 31 May. I wish all these students the best of luck in representing our school.
