YEAR 11 HEALTH AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT VIRTUAL PARENTING EXPERIENCE

From this term the Year 11 Health and Human Development students will be given the opportunity to take home a robotic baby for two nights to learn about infant development. These robotic babies give students a chance to better understand the responsibilities that parenting entails and experience the skills involved in raising young children.

The babies are extremely realistic, in that they are the same weight, are the same height and have similar needs to a real baby. The babies are set to mimic the number of times a baby needs to feed, burp, cuddle and will cry until these needs are met. They also record if they are held and rocked, if they are dressed correctly for the weather and if their head is supported.

Students who have already been involved in this unit have really enjoyed this task as it was engaging, challenging and educational at the same time. Students who have taken part in this unit have learnt a lot from this experience and through this, we hope that future students are able to learn more from this task and find a new appreciation for their parents who ensure that they become the best versions of themselves.

On behalf of the students involved in this wonderful experience we would like to thank all the Health teachers who have made this experience possible and we hope that with this newfound appreciation we can continue to make the most of every opportunity through the next few terms.

This task has allowed me to further understand the responsibilities of becoming a parent and provided me with insight into the development of infants. Overall, this experience has opened my eyes to the sacrifices and compromises that my parents have made thus far.

Being able to have an opportunity to be involved in this unit has really opened my eyes to the challenges of becoming a parent as well as teaching me many things such as care and patience. Overall, I’d really like to thank the teachers who have given me the chance to expand my knowledge and understanding of raising children.
