Auslan News

Over the past 2 weeks in Auslan, we have continued practising our signs for common fruits, revised colours and started learning new signs for FEELINGS, including:

happy, excited, sad, tired, bored, sick, safe, nervous, calm, love, shy, surprised, scared, angry, silly, proud, and brave! Students have been learning how important it is to used facial expressions when communicating in Auslan and expressing feelings.

As we move into the new topic of Feelings, students in each year level have also been finishing off some tasks for the week…

Grade Prep students have continued using “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” to sign fruits and colours, and have been learning to sign the “Fruit Salad Song!” Your prep child might like to teach you their signs using the following link

Grade 1-2s have been practising their mini-performances in small groups to be able to perform for their classmates over the next 2 weeks!!

Grade 3-4s completed their Auslan Fruit Baskets and have been signing the fruits they like and don’t like from their fruit baskets.

Grade 5-6s have finished sharing their Jamie Oliver Ultimate Fruit Salad Recipes. All students that chose to sign their recipes in front of the class did an amazing job and should feel very proud of themselves! It is not easy getting up in front of the class to share, let alone sharing in a new language you are learning!! Fantastic effort Grade 5-6s!!

This week also, all of our students from Grades 1-6 have been learning a song which will form part of our Harmony Day Assembly celebrations this Friday morning. We hope you can come along for the Harmony Day Assembly!!

National Ride to School Day – FRIDAY 24th of March.

This Friday (24th) is National Ride2School.

National Ride2School Day is Australia’s biggest celebration of active travel and one of the best days on the school calendar. It is a day where students, teachers and parents discover the joy of riding and kick-start healthy habits for the future.

Join more than 350,000 students across the nation who will ride, walk, scoot and skate to school.

Part Way is OK.

For those who live a long way from school – riding, walking or scooting part of the way is also ok. We have a number of excellent walking/riding tracks around the school that you can use that lead to our School crossing.

All students who ride/walk/scoot or skate will receive a sticker and there will be prizes for the class with the highest percentage of active travellers.

Due to the number of students riding to school on this day, there will be a space on the BOTTOM OVAL to place all bikes and scooters.
